Adventurous Australians rank high on Global Adventure Ranking

Thinking of jumping out of a plane or hiking a mountain? You’re not the only one.

Us Australians are adventurous folk, and, according to a study recently undertaken by peer-to-peer motorhome rental platform, SHAREaCAMPER.

Are you super keen to get outdoors and jump off cliffs! The 2017 Global Adventure Ranking study measured the online popularity of eight adventure activities (such as rock climbing, BMX riding, surfing, and the slightly less extreme caravanning) across 40 countries.

Google searched the volume for keywords over 12 months, with the data then ranked into two categories:
1. Number of searches per 100,000 people per country
2. Actual number of searches per country.
The results? Some pretty impressive bragging rights.

Whilst it’s not entirely indicative of the adventurous activities available in a country, the data does give a strong indication of where you can find adrenalin-seekers.

As it turns out, Australians are some of the boldest of all! Sandwiched between the Netherlands and Sweden, Australia was ranked second in the world for the most adventurous individuals per capita, and ranked number one overall for rock climbing, skydiving, and surfing. Hell yeah!

With the exception of the USA, our friendly competitors in the top 10 are all European countries, including Sweden, Austria, and the UK.

In relation to total searches, Australia came fourth with rock climbing and surfing our top picks. We were behind USA, Germany, and France (not bad for a country with a population of only 23.5 million!).

Here are the top 10 most adventurous countries in the Global Adventure Ranking:
1. The Netherlands
2. Australia
3. Sweden
4. Germany
5. France
6. Denmark
7. Norway
8. United Kingdom
9. United States
10. Austria

“Although we are based in Germany, Australia and New Zealand, knowing where to find adventurous people across the world is interesting for ourselves and any other business that thrives on adventure,” SHAREaCAMPER CEO Florian Dahlmann stated.

Home to some of the world’s most poisonous animals and extreme climates, is it really any surprise that Australia is also home to some of the most adventurous people in the world? Time to get exploring!
