The Style Edit: What We’re Spending Our Paychecks On Right Now

Chronically shopping

By Style Journos | 20th August 2024

Welcome to the Shopaholics Club, a club where we online shop for a living and spend our paychecks before the day is out. At Style, we struggle to refrain from buying those things we absolutely must have, and boy, have we been hard at work! With the change of season coming in hot, we are gearing up for holidays, wardrobe updates, and just general necessities (yes, mugs and candles are necessities).

Whether we’ve pulled the trigger or the products are patiently waiting in our carts, here’s what some of the Stylers are loving ATM.

Love them too? We don’t blame you. Go on – click add to cart!

Not to make myself sound boring, but I am well and truly out of my reading slump and in the throes of a very real reading addiction. So, currently, all I want to do is snuggle up in bed with my emotional support water bottle and this adorable mug from Harlie Brown Studio and get stuck into a good book. Next up on my reading list? Kala by Colin Walsh, a mystery thriller I’ve heard great things about. And in totally unrelated news, I have also had my eye on this Paris Georgia top for ages – how fun is she?!

With spring in sight, I’ve got all things homewares on my mind! More specifically, chrome homewares. I love that every new season brings with it the opportunity to re-decorate and feel like you’re living in a whole new space, so this chrome Country Road vase was added straight to my wishlist. To accompany it, I’ve also got my eye on this sleek Diptyque Candle Snuffer which is both aesthetic and practical. And lastly, an Aesop Room Spray has been the latest addition to my wishlist because who doesn’t love a nice smelling room?

At the end of this month, I’m jetting off to a Euro summer and leaving home behind – see ya! So currently, the only shopping that’s on my mind is my summer wardrobe. First things first, sunnies. I was hellbent on finding the perfect, sturdy pair to accompany me on my travels. And ta-da, I found the pair of my dreams: the Gucci Oval Sunglasses in tortoiseshell. These are the perfect combination of trendy being a nineties shape, whilst still being classic with the iconic logo on the side – perfection! Next on my agenda: a neutral-toned shoulder bag that’s a little bit beachy yet still chic. For a brief this specific, St. Agni is the only way to go. I instantly fell in love with a bone-coloured, leather-woven bag. Perfect for fitting your daytime essentials, this bag is spacious yet small enough to use in the evening. Finally, the last piece of the puzzle was the perfect carry-on bag. It needed to be three things: spacious, compact, and sturdy. So naturally, I took a look at July for what they’ve got. If it’s good enough for the Olympians, it’s good enough for me! I chose the Large Everyday Tote in Dark Brown and it’s just what I was looking for. From an internal water bottle pocket to a luggage strap and a million pockets, this can fit everything I need. And with that, au revoir!

2024 has been the year of budgeting, and for me, this means I’ve had to take a strategic approach to shopping. Everything I consider is now more thoughtful, with a focus on cost per wear, timelessness, and durability. I’ve been consciously seeking quality pieces that will become staples in my wardrobe, elevating basics to create a luxe look. Currently, I have my eye on a silk laundry blazer – an instant boost to any outfit, versatile and classic. I’ve wanted a hunter green bag for about a year now and never taken the plunge but I’ve finally found one I love from Anthropologie. The shape is classic, but the colour makes it a bit trendy. Lastly, this Mejuri gold bangle will be a part of my everyday wardrobe. Accessories instantly make me feel more put together, and I feel confident I’ll be wearing this in 10 years.

When I’m not home, you’ll find me in the thick of my wellness routine. Whether it’s sweating it out in an infrared sauna or chilling out in an ice bath. As a self-proclaimed wellness girly, I’m always on the lookout for ways to look fabulous while working out, stay hydrated, and keep my hair in check. After all, looking good and feeling good go hand in hand! For Pilates sessions, I’m obsessed with the Nagnata unitard — it’s perfect for staying chic while breaking a sweat. And what’s a Pilates class without a refreshing post-workout beverage? I love grabbing an iced LB from my local coffee shop, sipped through my insulated keep cup to keep it cool and eco-friendly. As the sunsets, an infrared sauna goes down a treat, where I rely on Redken’s leave-in treatment to keep my locks healthy and hydrated. Anyway, that’s my little wellness update – until next time, Namaste!

I’m all about quality staples right now, focusing on pieces that I’ll own and wear for years to come. A high-quality blazer, handbag, and jeans are my go-to wardrobe essentials that make getting dressed in the morning a breeze. While I love classic denim jeans, I’m currently obsessed with the leopard jean trend—it brings me back to when my friends and I used to rock our Sass & Bide leopard straight jeans with a little black crop top and heels for a night out. So, I’ve got my eye on these Ganni jeans. I’m also loving high-quality tailored pieces like this Acne Studios blazer, perfect for elevating any work outfit. To complete my look and carry my essentials, a shoulder bag adds a simplistic yet chic touch. That’s why I always gravitate towards a classic black shoulder bag like this Loewe bag to tie everything together.
