By Style Journos | 16th July 2024

Are you sick of your hot girl walks through the neighbourhood? Tired of seeing the same sights day in and day out? Then it’s time to hit the dirt because your walks can get a lot more interesting.

Here in South East Queensland, we are blessed with not only beautiful weather but a wealth of nature right on our doorstep. Lucky for us, there are plenty of hiking trails in our little pocket of the world.

Whether you’re levelling up your morning walks, seeking an adventure with the family, or need a unique date idea (Netflix and hike?), hiking is a great way to unleash your fun and adventurous side (and with the bonus of a little exercise too).

So, lace up your Hokkas, fill your favourite (insulated) water bottle and grab a buddy – we’ve rounded up the best hiking trails near Brisbane.

SHORT HIKES

Mt Coo-tha Summit Trail

The perfect trail if you don’t want to stray far from the city, the Mt Coo-tha Summit Trail is located just 15 minutes from Brisbane’s CBD, meaning views are a 10/10. A moderately challenging route, trek 5.5 km there and back and be treated to city vistas when you reach the summit. First stop Mt Cootha, next stop Everest! Parched? Grab a table at the Peak’s Summit Restaurant and Bar where you can revel in a halfway celebration. There’s no shame in a cheeky bubbly mid-hike, right?

Daisy Hill Conservation Park

A great destination for reconnecting with nature, Daisy Hill Conservation Park’s many shared trails are suited to any skill level. Located south of Brisbane – only 30 minutes from the city – find yourself encased in a rich eucalyptus forest, home to our favourite fuzzy friends. Keep your eyes towards the sky as you’re likely to see sleepy koalas amongst the trees. After your journey, stop by Daisy Hill’s own Koala Centre and see the little cuties up close.

Mt Coolum Summit Track

Only 90 minutes from Brisbane’s CBD, feel the burn as you trek 208m above sea level and reach the summit of this volcanic dome in 1.6km. Mt Coolum boasts stunning views of the Sunshine Coast and is perfect for a day trip away from Brisbane’s bustling streets.  If the views don’t get your shoes on, we don’t know what will! A bonus is you can easily pop over to the Sunny Coast’s gorgeous beaches and wash away the sweat after your day of trekking. As Miley says, life’s a climb, and we’re sure that this hike will send your spirits skyward.

Burleigh Heads National Park Walks

If stunning views are what you’re after, look no further than the Burleigh Heads National Park Walks. Just a stone’s throw from the vibrant heart of Burleigh Heads, you can trek beside one of Australia’s most picturesque coastlines while exploring protected flora and fauna. This natural haven offers two main trails starting from the headland – the Oceanview Track and the Rainforest Circuit – catering to different preferences and fitness levels. The Oceanview Track is a flat, easy 1.2km route that treats you to nearly constant ocean views and leads directly to the serene Tallebudgera Creek. It’s perfect for a leisurely stroll with spectacular coastal scenery. For those seeking more of a challenge, the Rainforest Circuit offers a 2.3km inland trek that climbs up the hill, immersing you in lush greenery. The effort is well worth it when you’re rewarded with breathtaking vistas of the ocean from above. Don’t forget your phone! You’ll want this view for the ‘gram.

Daves Creek Circuit

Another Gold Coast destination, Daves Creek Circuit is renowned for its subtropical eucalyptus rainforest that calls Lamington National Park home. A medium-level hike, spend three to four hours on the 12km trail, with sounds of babbling brooks and sweet streams to keep you company. Don’t go chasing waterfalls, because the Daves Creek Circuit has many dotted throughout that will keep you in awe all journey long.
