Light It Up, A 2km Illuminated Trail Is Set To Take Over The City Botanic Gardens After Dark

Let there be light

While winter evenings means watching the sunset on your commute home from the 9-5, Brisbane City’s new illuminated experience is making the most of the longer, darker hours.

The internationally renowned Lightscape trail is making its Queensland debut from Thursday 31 August to Sunday 8 October, transforming the City Botanic Gardens into an after-dark oasis of botanical brilliance. Featuring larger-than-life flowers, dazzling foliage dangling in the sky, and ethereal fields of light, the technicolour wonderland is one that will have you ogling all night long.

Lightscape is a self-guided experience that will see you following a 2km trail weaving through the city park under glowing canopies and sparkling tunnels. A key highlight of this year’s Brisbane Festival, the installations will also include a First-Nations-led projection work by local artists amongst the global creators.

Session times will begin nightly at 5.45 pm in 15-minute intervals until late, with the multi-sensory journey taking around 90 minutes. Of course, all that star-gazing is sure to have you working up an appetite, so Lightscape will play host to a range of food and beverage outlets on-site.
