New Eats: Ping Pong Is Coming!

It’s big, bold, flagrantly fun and most prominently, it’s pink.
Just a short six months after opening his last venture, Yolk, Yianni Passaris is embarking on his third foodie enterprise in Brisbane – with the legendary Thai hospitality extraordinaire, Chef Bowyo, by his side.
Ping Pong has been a long time coming. We first heard about the arrival of the all-pink, ultra Instagrammable restaurant (with epic food to boot) back in February of this year. And whilst a global pandemic might have set back the opening date by a few months, it just makes the highly anticipated opening on Friday 7th August that much more exciting.
For owner Yianni, opening a Thai restaurant has always been a long-term goal, so when the opportunity to fill a space in Gasworks arose, it was simply too good to pass up. “I never thought I would be opening up a third venue so soon, but the opportunity was too good to resist. Except this time, I didn’t want to do it alone… I’ve got enough greys!” Yianni jokes. And so, a partnership with Chef Bowyo and design-expert Alexander Lotersztain was born.
The result? Let’s just say there’s plenty of wow-factor. Seating 120 people, the predominately pink venue is certainly far from tame. Get your insta-feed in order – this place is cool, fun and definitely the place you want to be seen at. When it comes to food, you can expect plenty of authentic yet modern Thai flavours – with the standout dish being a perfectly slow-cooked beef cheek massaman curry. And with Chef Bowyo recently returning from a trip to Thailand, she’s ready to hit the ground running. Personally, we can’t wait to try the betel leaf with caramelised pork, pomelo, peanut, coconut, and kaffir – YUM! Wash it all down with plenty of good, old-fashioned natural wines, cocktails and boozy slushies. Word on the street is that Yianni is pretty keen to bring back the old cask wine – so watch this space!
