In its 16th year BIGSOUND is Australia’s ultimate mecca for collaborative work and networking in the music industry. The largest music festival of its kind runs from 5-8 September. BIGSOUND is wholly unique in Australia in its collaborative efforts to bring together amazing artists and industry leaders to perform in venues across Fortitude Valley.

Since 2002 BIGSOUND has been involved in bringing together a whole host of new and old artists launching many careers onto the world stage including Flume, Rufus, Courtney Barnett, Megan Washington, The Temper Trap, A.B. Original, Remi, Gang of Youths and more. The festival runs for four days and nights transforming Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley with 15+ venues hosting 130+ artists.

BIGSOUND doesn’t just host dance parties and intimate moments with music but also a huge array of industry leading conferences held on the future of music. Covering topics from race, culture, gender, identity, mental health through to export, technology, touring, release strategies, Australian content, crisis management and more.

ALEX THE ASTRONAUT | THURSDAY

Newly returned from a study abroad in NYC, Alex The Astronaut returns to her Australian roots bringing back with her, her lucid songs. Her style seems fueled by the old school charm of Paul Kelly and the small country town dissolution of Lorde. Alex The Astronaut creates a truly unique soundscape that leaves you feeling like your somehow close friends. Alex the Astronaut is an eclectic mix of Electronic indie folk music.

ALEXANDER BRIGGS | TUESDAY

With Alexander Briggs first debut EP launching on the 15th of September BIGSOUND is the perfect platform to fall in love with this Melbourne based artist. His calm melodies, steady rhythms and uplifting tunes leave you feeling inspired and whimsical. However, there is something mesmerizing in his voice that departs in you a sense of loss. A truly well rounded artist worth discovering.

ALTA | THURSDAY

ALTA is an electronic duo from Melbourne with hypnotic beats and vocals broken by experimental embellishments dropped throughout their smooth cool kid tracks. Big up and comers to watch; this year alone they’ve played Sugar Mountain, Splendour In the Grass and Vivid. BIGSOUND has given them four stages to bliss out, check them out.

BAKER BOY | WEDNESDAY

Unashamedly proud and so deserving, Baker Boy is the ‘fresh new prince’ of Arnhem Land. Raised in the remote NT communities Milingimbi and Maningrida the 20-year-old raps in Yolngu Matha language and English, seamlessly blending the two. Baker Boy’s music oozes self-confidence an artist to watch in the future and one you can check out at BIGSOUND!

CONFIDENCE MAN | TUESDAY

Confidence Man have started their career with a debut of only two songs Boyfriend (Repeat) and Bubblegum, but even so played Glastonbury before moving onto Splendour in the Grass where they reigned as one of the most anticipated bands and The Great Escape new music festival. They are definitely an act to catch on the first day of BIGSOUND.

CUB SPORT | WEDNESDAY

Hottest 100 alumni Cub Sport earnt their breakout fame with ‘Come On Mess Me Up’. A truly eclectic and haunting pop track that pulls heavily on the heartstrings. Cub Sports overall style is a relatively indie pop with moments of haunting orchestral vocals. It’s well worth staying out late on your Wednesday night to catch these guys.

DEADLIGHTS | THURSDAY

A post-metalcore band Deadlights have recently signed on to Greyscale Records. In April, Deadlights released their debut album ‘Mesma’ with their newly signed record company. With this album Deadlights are ready to take the stage at BIGSOUND with two performances on Tuesday and Thursday night.

EMERSON SNOWE | THURSDAY

Emerson Snowe is the moniker of Jarrod Mahon bassist to The Creases. This side project is the formation of his artistic and poetic nature in Emerson Snowe. His music is very cool, collected and sweet with a sense of open vulnerability. Emerson Snowe is very good for something different; among all the big acts his very reflective music is a nice moment of introspection.

GOLDEN VESSEL | TUESDAY

Golden Vessel’s music is smooth talking electronic tracks with a down tempo beat. Good for nearly any mood his tracks are chilled out; featuring strong vocalists with soulful lyrics and downplayed hip-hop elements in the background. All of these features are blended by the producer Max Byrne the Brisbane based artist behind Golden Vessel.

HATCHIE | THURSDAY

In May Hatchie released her debut track ‘Try’. Since then the track has been featured on Triple J, NPR and Spotify’s Viral Chart, Top 40s and Best Of playlists. ‘Try’ sits somewhere between kicking back in your courtyard garden and delving into a springtime daydream.

HOCKEY DAD | WEDNESDAY

Cool surfy-rock dudes Hockey Dad have had a huge year touring all over with their album Boronia. Their best buds and their killing it with the rock’n’roll on the beach vibes. Set to release a new album in early 2018, get to BIGSOUND to get a listen into Boronia.

INTROVERT | THURSDAY

Named on Triple J Unearthed ‘Top ten artists to watch in 2017’ INTROVERT have had a huge year touring with Birds of Tokyo, Balance and Composure, Hellions and AFI. Also securing their own position at Groovin The Moo. INTROVERT come to Brisbane for BIGSOUND; providing an amazing opportunity to hear one of Australia’s latest and greatest up and comers.

IV LEAGUE | THURSDAY

IV League started off as a two-piece band but eventually added two other members to form the band that they are today. Their music is described as alternative rock meets progressive pop. In the past year, they have played Laneway festival and toured with Ali Barter and now come to BIGSOUND. Check them out.

JOYRIDE | TUESDAY

One half of the incredible duo-no-more from The Meeting Tree, Joyride is one DJ to keep an eye on if you’re not already. His first solo single released ‘Kings And Queens’ is an electronic track featuring heavy synth and alternative R&B vibes.

MANSIONAIR | WEDNESDAY

Since releasing ‘Hold Me Down’ in 2014 Mansionair have been propelled to the world stage playing Laneway Festival, Splendour in The Grass and toured with CHVRCHES, Florence and the Machine and Alt-J. Their latest collaboration ‘Line Of Sight’ has been with ODESZA and WYNNE.

MANU CROOK$ | WEDNESDAY

Has a truly unique sound in the Australian hip hop/rap scene. His creepy Stephan King backtracks merge perfectly with his strong voice and steady flow. His latest album ‘Mood Forever’ dropped in early August. A definite artist to check out with a three hour set on Wednesday

MIDAS.GOLD | THURSDAY

Massively inspired by the American rap scene Midas.Gold has electronic rap beats that blow up. Opening for The Underachievers and Danny Brown, Midas.Gold has also toured with Ivan Ooze and Tkay Maidza, even hosting his own national tour.

MUTO | WEDNESDAY

With hints of Flume’s smooth lyrics and organic electronic vibes and Flying Lotus’s synthetic beats MUTO brings a unique sound to the producing world. 2017s break out producer MUTO is 100% an artist you need to go see. Twice.

OCEAN ALLEY | WEDNESDAY

Psychedelic rock, reggae and blues meshed together and delivered in the grooviest chilliest vibe is what Ocean Alley brings you. If you’re looking for some new artists to fall in love with these are the guys to get to. Ocean Alley have played internationally across Australia, Europe, New Zealand and New Caledonia. Their latest release ‘The Comedown’ dropped this August.

PAGAN | TUESDAY

High intensity Rock & Roll, Punk and Metal worshipers need to get to Pagan if they aren’t already planning on it. Wild and energized Pagan’s shows are for throwing caution to the wind and rocking out monster style.

SLOTFACE | TUESDAY

Politically active feminist band Sløtface entered the world stage at a very young age with wisdom beyond their years. Now Triple J faves Sløtface come to BIGSOUND with their dance-pop tracks. Sløtface have been politically active in their protesting of Nordic Mining dumping and other political agendas. With similar energy to Pussyriot their a wig gig to see live.

SUPER CRUEL | THURSDAY

Since releasing their debut track ‘November’ (feat. Lisa Mitchell) SUPER CRUEL have been getting some massive traction. Earlier in the year they played at Splendour in the Grass, the duo is made up of Adelaide’s Tigerilla and Sydney’s Porsches. The track ‘November’ has beautifully delicate vocals contrasted with a synth-electronic track.

The Creases | WEDNESDAY

Absolute Brissie Faves The Creases are back for BIGSOUND. Having just dropped their latest album, ‘Tremolow’, the indie rock band are ready to dish out some quality music for you. The Creases have toured with the likes of BAD//DREEMS and Ball Park Music.

TIA GOSTELOW | THURSDAY

Popular on Triple J and all over, Tia Gostelow’s happy-mellow pop tunes are perfect for an afternoon groove out. Tia Gostelow is perfectly complemented with friends, beers and backyards. Luckily, she’s playing two gigs at Ric’s Big Backyard and one at the Zoo.

TIGERILLA | THURSDAY

Pop-dance anthems are Tigerilla’s business and he brings it hard. His latest track MerryGo dropped in April. Heavy bass, electronic, sass and party is what you’re in for at a Tigerilla set. Get to Tigerilla for a thirty minute get down.

WAAX | TUESDAY

The angsty ‘Wild & Weak’ EP launch of WAAX has highlighted this band as up and comers to keep an eye on. Their independent release has received a lot of praise as they’ve sold out shows across the country. WAAX are Brisbane locals returning for BIGSOUND, get amongst them.

WILLARIS. K | FRIDAY

Northern NSW producer Willaris. K’s debut track Alchemy is deep, dark and instinctual. Recently Willaris K has played at Splendour in the Grass and internationally as well as at the upcoming Arcadia. Recently Willaris. K dropped a remix of Hands by Exhibitionist. His restrained dark melodic signatures flow through. A producer definitely worth checking out for something unique.
