Here at Style, we love our dads. So as a tribute to Father’s Day, we thought we'd ask prominent Brisbane business owners to share their personal stories about their fathers, and reflect on how they've influenced them to this day.

The number one saying your dad lives by is… If you're not happy about something, its up to you to make the change. And regarding children, kids do what you do, not what you tell them to do (which I think is absolutely true!)

Favourite memory of your dad? One of my favourite memories was travelling in England and Scotland with my father in my early twenties. I’m one of five children so it was great to hang out just with him. He’d travelled the area many times and it was like he was sharing his playground and his passion.

The number one saying your dad lives by is… Treat others the way you would like to be treated and if you can’t think of anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all. Perhaps that was why he was such a quiet person. Just joking! He seemed to be the sort of guy that when he spoke, everyone stopped to listen.

Describe your dad in under 30 words… My father, Stewart, epitomises strength, courage, and honour. He rose through the ranks of the Air Force to become an Air Commodore and is now the State President of the RSL. He has an infallible social conscience. Favourite memory of your dad? The most vivid memory I have of my father is the day he took my little sister and I panning for gold in a creek on the outskirts of Canberra. We enthusiastically gathered a bounty of glittery stones and dad assured us we'd hit pay dirt. In hindsight, I now realise we'd just collected an assortment of wet rocks.
What's one of the most valuable pieces of advice you have received from your dad? Be deliberate and intentional. Once you've made up your mind, follow through and never give up.
The number one saying your dad lives by is… Respect people for who they are, not what they are.
