The coffee scene and shops

On any given morning, the brew houses of Stanley St and Grey St are abuzz with coffee enthusiasts and foodies. South Brisbane is renowned for some fantastic cafés and lunch spots that should please even the most cynical reveller. Establishments such as My Sweetopia, The Espresso Garage and Glow have certainly been the talk of the bean-sipping Brisbane town recently.

The south bank parklands

These beautiful parklands are an icon of Bris-vegas. With a unique inland beach and other fabulous water features, this is the perfect place to get some sun and feel the sand between your toes. Experience panoramic views of this great city with a ride on the Wheel of Brisbane, Queensland’s answer to the London Eye. The South Bank Parklands are truly a summer escape just a stones throw away from the CBD.

The museums

If South Brisbane is Brisbane’s cultural hub then the Queensland Cultural Centre is certainly the centrepiece. The Queensland Museum and the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) are major tourist attractions that will leave even the most travelled and informed culture freaks gobsmacked. GOMA regularly showcases the who’s who of international modern art with recent exhibitions including global fashion icon, Valentino and the famous installation artist, Cai Guo-Qiang.

Nightlife and markets

Get lost in South Brisbane’s sea of culinary excellence and a jungle of fine alcoholic establishments. South Brisbane is synonymous with fabulous nightlife, with countless boutique cocktail bars and restaurants inhabiting Grey St and surrounds including Soleil Pool Bar and Greystone Bar and Cellar. Also, it wouldn’t be a South Brisbane nightlife experience without a visit to the Friday night South Bank Markets. These fabulous markets include a vast array of fashion, art, homewares and food stalls, certainly enough to satisfy the most enthusiastic of shopaholics.

The city views

One cannot mention South Brisbane without mentioning the panoramic views of the CBD and surrounds. A walk or run (for all you fitness junkies) along the esplanade in the evening is an experience that no Brisbanite can miss, bringing new meaning to the term ‘city of blinding lights’. The best establishments to take in these views while enjoying a beverage include The Jetty South Bank and River Canteen.
