In news that is sure to charm the pants off anyone who likes a cheeky drink, UberEats alcohol delivery is now available.
YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY. Booze. To your door. On demand.
It’s currently only available in Melbourne, but we have a fairly solid hunch that the UberEats alcohol delivery service will creep north later this year.
This is particularly exciting news for those of us who are well-versed in the ancient art of online shopping on the couch while drinking wine (not recommended for people prone to rash purchases).
There are a few UberEats stipulations here. The home-delivery option is only available for beer and wine (no, you can’t order an espresso martini to go), and the alcohol must accompany a food order. You can’t be underage (duh), because the driver will be checking ID.
Also, don’t get any cheeky ideas about banging out an order when you’re several gin and tonics deep – if you answer the door visibly intoxicated, your order will be going straight back to the restaurant (RSA rules still apply here).
A few other companies have tried to get a foothold in the alcohol-delivery market, with limited success. However, Uber alcohol delivery is the obvious addition to their much-loved offering. Uber will soon be able to transport you safely home, deliver you food, AND drop off some booze – so it’s basically the holy trinity for a lazy weekend.
We thought that Uber would never be able to top their hugely successful Puppy Delivery service (arguably the highlight of an otherwise grim 2016), but we really feel like they’ve knocked it out of the park with this one.
