OK so we don't mean actually on fire, because that would mean the destruction of one of Brisbane's best-looking heritage buildings and that's not cool.
No, we're talking a light show spectacular at one of the city's most iconic locales. From Friday September 18, the iconic Treasury Heritage Hotel in Brisbane’s CBD will plunge to the bottom of the ocean, erupt in flames, and transform into an almighty chocolate factory as the spectacular Treasury Lights receives its world premiere.
Presented by Brisbane Festival and proud Principal Partner Treasury Casino & Hotel, this breathtaking son et lumière is guaranteed to stop CBD visitors in their tracks.
“Following the tremendous success of the Colour Me Brisbane lightshow on Treasury’s façade during last year’s G20 cultural celebrations, we are delighted to ignite our beautiful building yet again with a light and sound spectacular perfect for the whole family,” Treasury Casino & Hotel Managing Director Geoff Hogg said.
Commissioned exclusively for Brisbane Festival 2015, Treasury Lights is the brainchild of an expert team of artists and technicians whose work spans multi-million-dollar live television productions, major outdoor festivals, international rock concerts and world sporting events.
TDC is at the forefront of large-scale projection and has an extraordinary portfolio that includes some of the most prestigious live events in Australia – lighting the Sydney Opera House, Customs House and the MCA as part of Vivid Sydney, various landmark buildings as part of White Night Melbourne, and many other projects.
Spinifex is one of the world’s great creators of live public experiences on some of the largest, wildest and most ambitious stages – Vivid Sydney, How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular, the Beijing Olympics, Vancouver Winter Olympics, and dozens more.
Brisbane Festival Artistic Director David Berthold said the 6-minute outdoor spectacle would “ignite one of Queensland’s most beautiful buildings in a way that will blow audiences’ minds.”
“I’ve had enormous fun working on Treasury Lights with the master light magicians of Spinifex and TDC,” David said.
“We’ve created a playful trip that takes us under the sea and up into the sky, into CandyLand and disco dreams, accompanied by Strawb the Strawberry and his fruity friends. There are lots of quirky references to the shows of Brisbane Festival, and that all’s part of the adventure.”
This free, family-friendly event plays nightly in Queens Park outside Treasury Casino & Hotel from 18-26 September inclusive.
