This New Release Turns Everyday Objects Into Art

By Kiri Johnston | 10th June 2026

Australian design studio Black Blaze has unveiled Rill, a new collection of sculptural stone objects inspired by the subtle traces left behind by flowing water.

Inspired by water

Named after the channels carved by streams over time, the collection explores movement, transformation and permanence through a series of objects designed for modern living. Defined by soft curves, recessed forms and organic silhouettes, each piece carries a quiet sense of fluidity and ease.

The collection begins with a simple design gesture: a surface drawn inward before opening out again. This recessed form reappears throughout the range in varying scales and functions, creating a visual language that feels cohesive, tactile and expressive. Across each piece, hollow and volume, softness and structure exist in careful balance.

The collection

Crafted from natural stone, Rill balances sculptural beauty with everyday function. The collection includes the Ink Dish, Bell Incense Burner, Bell Candle Holders, Bell Vase and Trunk Vase Wing, alongside a new range of Beeswax Taper Candles and Stone Candle Pins.

At the heart of the collection is an exploration of form and void. Recessed curves and sculpted hollows create visual softness, while the weight of natural stone lends a sense of permanence. The result is a collection that feels equally at home as a functional object or sculptural accent.

Everyday rituals

Designed to live quietly within the home, the pieces encourage moments of pause throughout the day. Whether lighting incense at sunrise, arranging fresh flowers, displaying treasured objects or simply appreciating the texture of natural stone, Rill celebrates the beauty found in everyday rituals.

Fossil pink marble

Adding a fresh dimension to the release is the introduction of Fossil Pink Marble, a soft blush-toned stone characterised by naturally occurring fossil markings, layered veining and subtle variations in colour. Warm and understated, the material brings a new softness to the Black Blaze palette while ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike.

Materiality and form

Founded in Sydney, Black Blaze has become known for its contemporary homewares, fragrances and objects inspired by the Australian landscape. Guided by a focus on natural materials, sensory design and enduring aesthetics, the brand continues to create pieces that sit comfortably between art and utility.

With Rill, Black Blaze presents a collection that celebrates materiality, craftsmanship and considered living. Whether used to hold flowers, candlelight, incense or treasured keepsakes, each piece brings a sense of intention and quiet beauty to everyday spaces.
