An all-round creative soul.

By Kiri Johnston | 1st February 2019

We caught up with Elle-Louise Burguez back in 2017; in that short amount of time she has lived overseas in Portugal with her partner but has since returned to the Sunshine Coast, which has been her home since she was young.

Quick Q&A

Favourite meal: Anything made by my partner

Favourite colour: Pink

Favourite animal: Lion

Favourite Aussie label: Deiji Studios

Daily rituals you swear by: Light exercise, medicinal mushrooms in water, connection time, cbd oil, reading before bed.

Three things that make you happy: Laughing with my loved ones, creating art and music, the ocean.

Top holiday destinations on your bucket list: Iceland, places I haven’t seen in Europe, somewhere pristine and untouched in nature, Australian Desert.

Five things you’re lusting over ATM: Natural fabrics - especially hemp, Paris Georgia, Aliangé Skincare, Mondo Mondo Jewels, a book I’m currently reading called ‘Circe’, Huski Studios Furniture, Oliver Peoples Eyewear, Anything by Ana Kraš, EMF Protection Products.

What have you been doing the past six months? I have been enjoying my time back in my hometown after 7 months living in Europe. I’ve been connecting with friends, making a new album and working on paintings and drawings.

Artist, author, poet, musician and songwriter, is there anything Elle can’t do? The 26-year-old talent has recently released her debut album ‘Apples for You’ under her new artist name Elle Músa. The album will instantly soothe you, and will make you dream of a European summer with a slight Spanish influence. Elle Músa limited edition vinyls are also available online now.

What is the album about, what inspired you whilst making this album and how long did it take for you to record it? This is my first album under my music project ‘Elle Músa’. I wrote and recorded it in 2017 in one live session amidst a tropical storm on the Sunshine Coast. It is very raw - just my vocals and guitar and some piano. This album is about my love for my partner and was inspired by our time living in Europe and also inspired by the book ‘call me by your name’ that I read in 2016. I wanted to capture the magical simplicity of love and joy as well as singing gentle reminders that all is okay in our love- we have to just stay calm and go with the flow.

Her latest painting collection is based around flowers, fruit and soft pastel tones that have a fresh, summery feel. While her ‘Qing’ collection incorporate animals, food and details furnishings, some of her favourite things. All the prints are painted with acrylic paints on canvas paper and add a bit of character and colour to every home.

Elle has also four books that she’s written and illustrated herself on her website. Ursa Girl talks about the many moods of young women, which makes for super relatable, inspiring and was a nice, light easy read. I must admit I had a chuckle here and there while reading this one thinking to myself “Am I Ursula?” Film is one of her other passions having created short clips from travels, time spent with friends and simply painting on the deck of her home.

Current favourite painting: My newest painting of clay vessels

Where do you currently draw inspiration from? Beautiful ceramics that I see online or in real life, my mind, music, smells, shapes and colours in nature.

Who is an artist that you look up to/admire? Ana Kraš for her genius and beautiful style and Sakata Aimi.

What have you been doing the past six months? I have been enjoying my time back in my hometown after 7 months living in Europe. I’ve been connecting with friends, making a new album and working on paintings and drawings. Do you have any upcoming projects in the works that you can tell us about? I have a collaboration coming up to do with poetry and drawings, a new collection of big paintings and a new album of music.
