As much as we love the carefree days of summer, here at Style we are welcoming autumn with open arms. Autumn time means we get to bust out the boots and leather jackets, cosy up with a cup of tea, and best of all, light warm and comforting candles. To get you as excited about our short period of cooler months, five Stylers have rounded up their top cosy candle picks for autumn. So, turn the kettle on and settle in for some cosy reading!

For me, it’s all about florals when it comes to my candles purchases. Although I can’t go past lavender or rose scented beauties, when the cooler months roll in I do like to mix it up a bit with some more earthy, less perfumed scents. Which is why I am loving this Australian Bush soy candle by Ivy & Wood. The base notes of this candle are patchouli and sandalwood, which is instantly relaxing when burning and reminds me of those great smelling day spas. Mix those in with some classic Aussie fragrances such as pine and lemon myrtle, this candle strikes a homey and cosy vibe. It’s also one of the few candles I’ve come across that uses eucalyptus and avoids smelling like cleaning products…so, snaps to these guys! The final thing I love about this range is that it’s hand poured here in Brisbane and created using eco-friendly materials!

I don’t think anything screams autumn like lighting a comforting candle and cosying up with a cup of tea and a good book. Diptyque is an iconic French fragrance house that creates some of the most delicious and aesthetically pleasing candles around. My favourite candle from the range is, hands down, Noisetier. With autumnal notes of Hazelnut, Cloves, Cedarwood, Vetiver and Patchouli, Noisetier is everything I want in a candle – it’s as comforting as receiving a warm hug! Tip: after you’ve burnt down your Diptyque candle, keep the super chic jar to hold items like q-tips and makeup brushes.

Growing up in regional Victoria the winter months were bitterly cold, but the memories of stopping at the local food truck for a hot cinnamon and jam donut are some of my favourite. So, imagine my excitement when Indigo Flame Soy Candles brought out their Hot Jam Donut flavour. When I burn the candle, it smells as if my entire home is filled with donuts and it’s delicious.

This candle represents home for me - fresh, earthy and cosy. I’m a massive homebody and enjoy being comfortable and spending time relaxing in my happy place either alone or with loved ones. I love lighting this candle and having it linger throughout my house on a Saturday morning or Sunday evening while cleaning and organising for the week. Strong scents aren’t my thing, so the subtleness of this candle is what I like the most – it’s woody yet fruity and crisp. It reminds me of a mixture of a lush garden and a hearty plant-based meal.

Styler: Melissa Myrteza
Brand: Jo Malone London

I normally won’t jump at fruity candles, but one passing whiff had me sold. These three bold ingredients seem to effortlessly complement each other, becoming a staple fragrance in my candle purchases. Stimulating scents have a special place in my bathroom and what could be fresher than a zesty fruit platter. With subtle scented twists like white thyme, balancing aromatic peppery basil notes, this scent is more complicated than it first seems. The bolder aromas of freshly peeled mandarin wedges and tangy lime quarters are easy to imagine, and even better to smell. Burning it creates a Mediterranean seaside ambience, encouraging relaxation, without the traditional ingredients.
