I’m not going to lie, I was fairly apprehensive about this challenge. So far we have seen Digital Editor Lucy take on 30 days styled by her boyfriend and Digital Journo Candice living for 10 days on $10 a day, and it was just my luck to get the tricky one!
So, what exactly is this challenge? Each day for the next 14 days, the Style gals will scroll their insta-feeds to find a motivational meme or #lifeinspo post, which I will have to incorporate into my day (or as long as I see fit). It will involve decoding the meaning of each mantra, no matter how cryptic, ambiguous or just plain ridiculous. Make sure to follow Style's Instagram for daily photo updates!
DAY 1: “All glory comes from daring to begin”
I receive my first meme in the car with the bf driving back to Brisbane after a weekend spent in Byron Bay. I open it, relieved, it’s actually not too bad! I ask the bf what he thinks. “It just means getting stuck into things,” he says. I decide it probably means I need to do something I’ve never done before, or something that will push me out of my comfort zone. But what? He immediately suggests I “wear no underpants to work” - I remind myself never to ask for his input again.
I decide to commit to running 5km a day for the next two weeks. Yeah ok, so I know that’s not that much. But, running makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a blunt pencil, so it’s a big deal! Plus, it’s something I have always wanted to learn to love (or not hate with a burning passion).
I decide to start tomorrow, as tonight it’s the bf’s birthday PLUS my netball grand final, which we won (yay!) so I figured I’d got all the glory today anyway.
DAY 2: “Do something today that your future self will thank you for”
Despite my slightly unsuccessful run this morning (I only made it to 3.2km) I’m feeling positive. If these meme mantras continue like this I will have pretty much reached enlightenment by the end of the fortnight… #winning!
I decide to consult my housemates on this one. “Get health insurance!!!” They all chime in unison.
… Hmm, maybe some other time.
I decide since I have probably bitten off more than I can chew with these daily 5km runs, I decide to stick to something simple. I make a delicious and healthy lunch for work tomorrow – a pumpkin, spinach, blue cheese and pine nut salad that my future self will definitely thank me for.
DAY 3: “Treat yo-self”
I decide this is probably going to be the best mantra I will receive over the next two weeks (thanks Lucy!) so I decide to take full advantage: I skip my morning 5km run, get stuck into a delicious brownie at around 10am, snack on hot chips with chicken salt, followed by an indulgent dinner at Spaghetti House and dessert at Cowch at Southbank (which involved a waffle-bowl AND Naked Pop shared between myself and journo Jane).
And yes, we ate everything.
