Style Challenge: 14 days of living by mantra memes | The Final Chapter

Style Challenge: 14 days of living by mantra memes | The Final Chapter

Aaaand that’s a wrap! Hannah has come to the end of her #14daymantramemechallenge… Here’s how she spent her final four days.

By Hannah Doody | 13th July 2015

It’s the finale of my #14daymantramemechallenge and I don’t know whether to laugh or cry! Read on to see how the final few days of my Style Challenge went down…

Day 11: “Drunk people, children and leggings always tell the truth”

Day-11

Hmmm… yeah this meme really rings true! But how the hell do I take it on for the day? I’m not sure, but all I know is I’m sooooo not wearing leggings.

Maybe it’s telling me I need to interview some drunk people? And maybe some children? I’d probably need a Blue Card for that though, right? I dunno.

I ask some opinions around the office.

“Nooo it’s supposed to be about YOU!” One Styler says.

“Like, a 24-hour truth serum for yourself.”

I decide to take this advice. And, would you believe it, I can proudly say I didn’t tell any lies (not even any white ones).

My housemates and I play cards that evening. I guess after bluffing my way through games of 500, this kinda counts as breaking my mantra. Oh well… #YOLO.

Day 12: “Pajamas. All day.”

Day-12

Yep. There’s only one way this one can be interpreted… it’s pajama time!

I wake up, shower, put my PJs back on and head to work.

“Did you really wear this to bed, or did you try and style it up a bit?” Digi Ed Lucy asks me, eyeing my outfit up and down.

I tell her this is actually what I wore to bed (minus the ugg boots).

It’s super comfy and warm on this cold winter day… I feel like a pajama day in the office would be great for boosting office morale - and it takes ‘casual Fridays’ to a whole new level!

Day 13: “Sorry no WIFI. Get drunk and talk to each other.”

Day-13

This meme is very fitting considering my weekend plans – I’m heading up to Somerset Dam to stay at a friend’s place, and I expect to be a) with limited Wifi access, and b) getting drunk.

I feel miles away from everywhere as we drink wine, eat cheese platters and take in the beautiful view of the lake and rugged landscape.

Though the reception isn’t great where we are, we still have access to Wifi. I find myself making excuses to use the internet whether it be to just upload that one Insta or to connect to Spotify… Going without Wifi for the day is harder than I had hoped!

I think it’s safe to say that I managed to nail the second half of this meme, and very much failed the first half.

Day 14...

I can’t believe the day has finally come… My last mantra!!

In celebration, I’m allowed to choose my last one, and I’m inundated with options via text message from the Stylers.

There is nothing worse than too much choice, so I decide to see where my day takes me.

After arriving home from my weekend away, all I can think about is burgers. So, to accommodate my burger craving I choose this meme…

Day 14 meme

The first person to express interest in participating in recreating this meme is Journo Candice. We decide on going to Chur Burger in The Valley. It’s a chilly Sunday night (about 10 degrees!) and it’s 7.30pm… Surely it’s not going to be too busy, right?

We walk in and it’s packed. We scurry to nab the only spare table. Feeling slightly awkward at how many people are here, and how odd we’re about to look, our burgers arrive.

The next few moments went something like this…

Day-14_1 Day-14_2 DAY-14_3

Personally, I couldn’t think of a better way to end my 14 days.

Here are a few things I will take away from this challenge…

1. That it’s important to set realistic goals… *cough* daily 5km runs *cough*
2. I find it very difficult to switch off to the world of social media, and although my job requires me to be very aware of social media, I should try to switch off from it when spending time with the people I love.
3. Most of the time, it’s going to take more than just an inspiring quote to change your ways. It was much more difficult trying to live by a quote if my mind wasn’t in it.
4. It’s important to push yourself out of your comfort zone. Many of my mantras centred on this concept and although I’m usually pretty ok with making a fool of myself in public, I need to remember to continually push myself in all areas of my life.

Thanks to all the Stylers who have followed me on this challenge and helped me live out each meme! Keep an eye out for the next Style Challenge soon…
