Meet the Style + Substance winner!

The best start-up ideas have always been about solving problems. Think of the services we use all the time: Virgin Airlines, Netflix, Google, DropBox… even post-it notes! Our inaugural Style + Substance competition winner has found a way to solve a problem of her own, and we are thrilled to introduce her to you!

Style’s winning entrepreneur connects travellers with local photographers around the world to ensure you have beautifully captured memories to take home. Say goodbye – thank goodness – to the selfie stick or asking strangers to hold your camera. Travelshoot, an online booking platform, makes it easy and affordable to set up a photo session in over 20 destinations around the world ¬– with many more to come.

“A few years ago, my husband and I took our first trip to New York,” says Travelshoot founder, Sarah Pearce. “We were lucky enough to spend an hour with a friend who was a local photographer. He was building his portfolio, and the outcome of our 'friendly shoot' was much more than we anticipated. The images we got back from that shoot blew our minds. Unlike our usual travel selfies, this time we were both in the frame against huge iconic landscapes. To this day they remain framed on our wall as the best memento of that holiday.”

For those who rely on selfies and good fortune to ensure everyone is looking at the camera with their eyes open, Travelshoot makes perfect sense. Let someone who knows the city show you to its most beautiful locations and take the photos that you want.

“Since that shoot in New York, I have invested the last two years into research and sourcing an incredible team of talented photographers in iconic destinations around the world.” Integral to the success of Travelshoot is this team of photographers who enjoy what they do, know the best local spots, and agree with the company’s mission of making Travelshoots affordable.

As part of Style’s search for the next big idea, Sarah’s business seemed the perfect fit as someone who wants to take on Brisbane – and the world! The kick-start funding of $10,000 will help bring Sarah’s five-year vision of thousands of Travelshoot customers sharing their beautiful travel images all around the world. “This prize money will assist with current and urgent development costs that will support the Travelshoot service to be more scalable,” says Sarah. “We're planning for massive growth, so now we want to invest in some savvy back-end technology processes and tools that will help us cater for large volume bookings and a great customer experience.

“For Travelshoot, style is about creating beautiful images that are iconic, timeless, and tell stories. Substance is about creating opportunities for others: work for local photographers, unique and memorable experiences for travellers, and aid for local charities across the globe.” Retaining their Brisbane roots, Travelshoot’s mission is to make this experience accessible and affordable, and provide the opportunity to give back to local charities, all while expanding their teams across the globe.

“Brisbane has a hugely vibrant start-up scene,” says Sarah. “I have felt really supported with the volume of networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities. The co-working scene is strong, and the affordability of living really adds to helping entrepreneurs take the full-time leap into their businesses.”

Whether it’s Paris, London, New York or Brisbane, Travelshoot is set to change the way you remember your holidays. Congratulations to Sarah. Style wishes you all the best and looks forward to playing a part in your future success.
