Theme park lovers and thrill seekers, rejoice! Plans for three new thrill rides have been announced for Sea World on the Gold Coast after Village Roadshow confirmed it will splash out $50 million on developing a 1.5 hectare precinct, and we couldn’t be more excited. The New Atlantis, as it will be known, is a game changing addition to the theme park that is said to be built upon the heroes and legends of the Old Atlantis.

The first ride to open at the park will be the Vortex, an 18 metre giant pendulum swing, which is due to be operational by December of this year – just in time for the holiday season! But, that’s certainly not all. In April next year, the Trident, a spinning attraction that flies 52 metres into the air, will become one of the park’s tallest attractions!

Cue the drumroll, because the final and most anticipated ride of the upgrade is the Leviathan. The multimillion-dollar one kilometre wooden roller coaster will stand at 32m high and will feature world first rear facing seats! You’ll have to be patient for this one though, as this roller coaster won’t be opening until December of 2020. We’re sure you’ll be totally occupied with the other new rides and attractions anyway.

Epic rides aren’t the only thing to look forward to with this new upgrade. The new precinct will also feature an amphitheatre which will be used for presentations, shows and activities that will help to educate parkgoers on how they can help protect and conserve the ocean environment as a part of Sea World’s own Research & Rescue Foundation. After all, we all know how important it is to protect our precious marine life.

It’s safe to say the Gold Coast is bracing for some epic upgrades. On top of Sea World’s awesome new attraction, the Queensland Government also recently announced they would pledge to invest $60 million for The Spit Master Plan. This has been described as an Ocean Park that will be two-thirds the size of Central Park. It’s sure all happening on the GC!
