What you should really be eating for breakfast

We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day right? So why are we eating sugary, artificial, highly processed cereals and toast? Sally Brouwer tells us her top tips for a healthy alternative to start the day.

Breakfast is your opportunity to get your day started in the best possible way, to fill your body with good nutrients, energy and essential vitamins and minerals. Packaged, processed food is not the answer.

What IS the answer is adding in vegetables! A good rule of thumb is to have at least five servings of vegetables a day. If you’re leaving this to dinner (as most people do) you’re probably not going to fit them all in.

It may take a little getting use to, but adapt and overcome and you’re all the better for it (financially as well as health wise).

Here’s some breakfast ideas:

  • eggs, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes
  • quiches and frittatas
  • vegetable muffins
  • meat and salad wraps
  • left overs from last night
  • fruit and vegetable smoothies
  • zucchini slice
  • soups – that’s right soup!

Breakfast should be no different from any other meal. Get planning, get organised and reap the benefits.
