Summer’s here. So let your space feel the breeze. When it comes to setting your space for a season filled with at-home hosting, summertime parties, and late-night suppers, the verdict is this: little changes can go a long way. But don’t just take it from us, take it from the masters. Interior designers Lara Dehbozorgi and Laure Bebbington from Brisbane-based interior design firm Residence Studio cast their refined eye over summer styling, sharing the simple, elevated ways to refresh a room – zero heavy lifting required.

Sculptural, polished, and full of playful textures, this power pair are designing their way through Brisbane’s most envious spaces. Specialising in high-end interior design and redefining luxury for commercial and residential spaces, Residence Studio is famed for elevating spaces with elements that blend the classic and contemporary.

With a refined vision, Residence Studio offer full interior design services that flow from concept to completion. And the high-end spaces they create are truly something else (hence why we trust their stylish opinions). They also provide creative direction and styling for bespoke interior photography – seriously, what can’t these girls do?

We chat to Laure and Tara as they offer up their insider advice on how you can elevate your home for the warmer months, as well as share the pieces they are loving this season. Bon appetit!

1. Small Changes, big impact

The energy is as follows: timeless additions that are fresh yet versatile, small ways to bring a touch of luxury into your home, and pieces packed with personality.

“Changes don’t need to be big in the way of moving further and bigger pieces. It can be a slight adjustment of décor, accessories, bedding and your table setting to really make a big impact and change the feel of the home to welcome in the entertaining season.”

Here’s what the girls are shopping:

2. Fresh scents

A scent says it all, so set the mood for at-home hosting with fresh floral notes or whispers of vibrant citrus. And these days, candles aren’t just about the scent but also the aesthetic. Picking a candle that is a statement in your space is a good way to bring in summer

“We love incorporating fruity, fresh and floral scents for the summer season.”

3. Layer colours

“Don’t be afraid to add layers of colour, especially in these warmer months. If you are stuck on how to add some colour through your décor, pick neutral items but add colour through displaying fruits and vegetables (such as lemons and limes, etc).”

Play with textures and tones this season with double the colour. Fill shareplates with the season’s brightest produce – think lemons, limes, heirloom tomatoes or dragon fruit – a subtle way to set the table as brightly as the season calls for.
