24 Hours In South Australia For The Launch Of The All-New Porsche Cayenne Electric
turbo charged
By Kiri Johnston | 7th October 2026The Porsche Cayenne has been a dream car of mine since forever. So an invitation to South Australia for the launch of its all-new electric models was a quick yes. I flew from Brisbane to Adelaide for 24 hours with Porsche, spending the day behind the wheel before an overnight stay in the city with an intimate group of media and talent from around the country.
On the itinerary: the Adelaide Hills, the Fleurieu Peninsula, lunch overlooking Port Willunga and a beach drive that I’m still talking about. Sleek, sexy and seriously zippy. My expectations were high, and the Cayenne Electric lived up to them.
The Turbo First, Obviously
With the Cayenne Electric and Cayenne Turbo Electric on the driving program, I had to take the Turbo for a spin first. It quickly became my favourite. When I emailed the Porsche team after the trip, loving the Turbo was the first thing I mentioned.
For context, Porsche quotes a 0-100km/h time of 2.5 seconds with Launch Control and up to 850kW of overboost power. The entry Cayenne Electric posts a claimed 4.8-second sprint with Launch Control. Those are manufacturer figures; my own assessment was a little simpler: seriously zippy, and a lot of fun to drive. Getting behind the wheel of a car you’ve admired for years comes with a certain amount of anticipation. This was a very good way to finally do it.
From the Hills to the Coast
Our drive took us from the Adelaide Hills towards the Fleurieu Peninsula, trading winding roads and green scenery for sand and blue water. Then came the beach drive. Easily the best parts of the trip. A line-up of Cayennes on the sand, with the South Australian coastline behind them, was worth a few photos. There were greens, greys and a particularly good orange. Against that backdrop, choosing a favourite colour became almost as difficult as handing back the keys. Driving on the beach made the day even more memorable. I’d come to South Australia to experience the new Cayenne Electric, and here I was taking it onto the sand. If you my posts, yes, it was every bit as fun as it looked.
Lunch with a view
We stopped for lunch at Star of Greece in Port Willunga, where large windows framed the sparkling blue water. A pretty good spot to sit back after the drive from Adelaide Airport.
After lunch, we continued into Adelaide, checking into Eos by SkyCity before a moody dinner at Station Road Restaurant near the hotel. The whole day ran seamlessly, from coastal roads and a beach drive to a night in the city.
Let’s talk colour
The Cayenne’s design has always been part of the appeal for me, and the beach was a pretty spectacular setting to see the electric models together. Maderia Gold Metallic, Monteverde Metallic and Mystic Green Metallic, each standing out against the sand and blue water.
And there’s plenty more choice. Porsche’s latest customisation announcement brings the Cayenne Electric’s exterior palette to 105 shades, including its Paint to Sample program. Inside, the optional Interior Style Package combines black and green tones across upholstery, stitching and accents. New options also include electrically operated doors and a massage function with 4D audio. These are features to explore when configuring your own car, with availability dependent on the model and specification.
The electric details
Then there’s the practical part: charging. Porsche quotes a 10–80 per cent charging time of 16 minutes under optimal conditions using a suitable high-powered DC charger. Actual times will vary depending on the charger, battery and conditions.
Optional Porsche Wireless Charging lets a suitably equipped Cayenne charge automatically when parked over an installed ground pad at home. The required vehicle preparation must be selected when configuring the car. I’d need more time with the Cayenne to comment on everyday charging and ownership. But after this first drive, I’d happily take the keys again.

Still a dream drive
Twenty-four hours in South Australia passed by quickly. From the hills to the beach, with lunch by the coast and dinner in Adelaide, we made the most of it. But getting behind the wheel was the highlight. The Cayenne is still firmly on the top of my wish list, specifically, the Turbo Electric. Explore the Porsche Cayenne Electric range here.
