No matter how many times we swear we will be more organised, every Mother's Day we are taken by surprise. Despite our best intentions, we often show up to family brunch with some flowers, a card and a Lush body wash. While these are all well and good, it doesn't hurt to go above and beyond sometimes to let her know just how valued she is. After all, she did give you life.
This year, instead of spending your Saturday hustling to organise a last minute gift that doesn't really live up to what she deserves, turn your Saturday afternoon into the gift! For something truly epic that includes all her favourite things (food, gardens and music – oh my!), take her along to the epic Mother’s Day Gigs & Picnics pop-up happening in the CBD!
For every Saturday of May, the City Botanic Gardens is being turned into a picturesque garden oasis complete with all the trimmings! With live music, food trucks, and oh-so-quaint garden furniture for you to lounge upon, it's the easiest way to fit in some quality time with your #1 lady. You can choose to simply pull up one of the available deck chairs and picnic rugs or, if you like to plan ahead, you’re welcome to bring along your own.
The mellow tunes of blues, jazz and reggae will fill the air with the likes of Dave Orr Band, the Lachlan McKenzie Trio and The Sugar Shakers taking turns to win your mother’s heart.
If you’re feeling quaint, put together a picnic basket with all her favourite snacks – from cheese to charcuterie – that you can nibble on as you enjoy the ambience of live music in one of Brisbane’s most iconic green spaces. Or, if you’re not particularly confident at putting together a DIY cheese platter, there’s no reason to sweat. Food trucks, both sweet and savoury, will be available to raid all afternoon, with their stoves firing up at 12 pm sharp.
Gigs & Picnics will be taking place every Saturday during May, between 12pm-4pm at the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens. Happy Mother’s Day!
