Everyone's favourite social sport

By Olivia Schoenauer | 6th March 2025

Forget the bars – this girls’ night is heading courtside! And no, we’re not talking tennis. We’re talking about the sport that’s everywhere right now – pickleball! If you haven’t already heard a friend or coworker raving about it (and insisting you have to try it), consider this your official invite to join the craze.

So what is pickleball?

Pickleball is a fun, fast-paced sport that’s like a mix of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. It’s played on a smaller court with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes (kind of like a wiffle ball). The game can be played one-on-one (singles) or two-on-two (doubles), making it super social and easy to pick up. Why is is do darn popular? It’s beginner-friendly, super social, and low impact. Basically, if tennis feels too intense and ping pong isn’t active enough, pickleball is the sweet spot!

Social sports are taking over, and for good reason! It’s the perfect mix of fun, fitness, and catching up with your crew – no elite athlete skills required. Gone are the days of stressful tryouts and super-competitive leagues. Now, you can just show up, paddle in hand, and play. Whether you’re after a fresh twist on girls’ night, a new date-night idea, or a fun way to mix up your workouts, pickleball is your next obsession.

So where can you play the sport on everyone’s lips in Brisbane? Scroll to find out.
