We may not have hoverboards, resizable jackets, or the self-lacing Reeboks (well, we might be getting those), but there’s one piece of futuristic Back To The Future II merchandise that fans will be able to get their hands on: Pepsi Perfect.
In the movie’s sequel, Marty McFly travels to the far-off magical year of 2015 – October 21 to be precise. After he’s already been super weirded out at several advances in technology (and the fact that the Jaws franchise never ended), he walks into the Café 80s and is bombarded by whiz-bang tech and talking TV screens and exasperatedly says “All I want is a Pepsi”? Then out of the table in front of him spins a futuristic looking bottle of the bubbly liquid gold called Pepsi Perfect.
Well get ready folks, because future day is here and Pepsi is rising to the challenge, and making the fictional soda beverage a reality
Unfortunately for the wider population of Back To The Future fans, this iconic piece of movie memorabilia will be limited edition… we’re talking uber-limited. Like 6500 bottles in all the world limited. And don’t think the “new” Pepsi in these nifty bottles will be any different from the regular blend; they’re just putting normal Pepsi in them. Guess that’s good incentive not to crack open a cool bottle of your limited-edition collectors item on a hot day!
Check out the super-retro awesome advertisement Pepsi has released for the product on YouTube, complete with a super-satisfied 1980s-but-in-2015 robot enjoying the popular soft drink.
Unfortunately, the guys in advertising may have hit publish a little too soon, the description reading: “The future has finally arrived… and so has Pepsi Perfect. Available for a limited time at [URL]”
So we don’t really know how you can get your hands on one yet BUT we do know that anyone dressed as Marty McFly at New York Comic Con later this week will get one FOR FREE (the first 1500 anyway. Can you imagine it? 1500 Marty McFlys!)
“Fans have always been a little crazy about it,” Pepsi’s Lou Arbetter says “and so we wanted to take advantage of the fact that Marty travelled to the future, to this month, and wanted to actually come out with the product.”
Come on Matel, you have until October 21… Get with the Hoverboards already!
