Since she was a little girl, Bianca De Luca – founder and designer of new homewares label One in Six, has loved beautiful spaces and fabrics. Coming from a fashion background, Bianca has impeccable style and creativity that is reflected in her designs.
Kova Lifestyle is Bianca’s homewares store located in James Street but the One in Six label is even more exclusive and unique. “I love knowing that someone can buy a piece from our ‘one of a kind’ range and they will be the only ones. That’s really special,” she says.
The label is handcrafted in India by local artisans that work with Bianca to create the perfect mix of modern technologies and ancient traditions, producing distinctive homewares with character and flare. “It has taken a lot of ground work to find my artisans… I find it amazing what some people can make with their hands,” Bianca says.
A turning point for Bianca was when she was undertaking an internship with Isabella Blow at Tatler Magazine in London with Isabella constantly emphasising, “Everything in life must be beautiful… fashion of course but in every detail in life, home and self”. Bianca took those words with her and continues to use them as inspiration for her designs.
With the change in weather comes a change in style and in Queensland we have a much brighter aesthetic in the winter months than our southern counterparts. According to Bianca, ‘Clean floorboards with white and bright interiors’ give off a beachy vibe and ‘the tie-dye and ombre trend that is coming through’ creates cosiness without being too heavy for our mild winter.
One in Six offers an assortment of collections including furniture, trunks, throws and quilts, textiles, art and footwear.
