Many working parents will be quick to tell you that finding the ideal work-life balance can be tricky territory to navigate, especially when you’re a business owner and manager.

For Hanna and Matt Cunliffe, raising two children and continuing to build and grow their Brisbane North and Brisbane City Mortgage Choice locations is all in a day’s work.
With an ever-changing and demanding work and home life, Hanna finds the balance comes from creating a happy, peaceful environment for her family, while still prioritising time for herself.

“I make sure that I get to a Pilates class at least 2-3 times a week,” she says.

“Exercise is so important to keep the mind clear and the body healthy and it’s really the only time I get without the kids or work commitments.”

Away from her family life, Hanna is passionate about helping her clients reach their own financial goals and does her best to ensure that their property dreams become a reality. It’s true that hard work really does pay off as Hanna and Matt’s two Mortgage Choice locations have seen them take home a number of industry awards, including the 2016 QLD Business Excellence Award.

Unlike your average husband and wife relationship, Hanna and Matt work closely together as they run their businesses, but the pair never underestimate the importance of a strong household foundation.

“Although Matt and I work together, we rarely find that we have any issues,” Hanna says.

“Being open with a clear expectation and trust in each other is what lets us both excel in the different areas of our work.”

Having two children, one school age and the other an 8-month-old baby, Hanna is continually attempting to master the balance, while still having enough downtime with her family.

“Some parts of the month get extremely busy and I get very little time to breathe,” she says.

“I love having the opportunity to attempt to ‘have it all.’ I can continue to work on my career, albeit at a slightly slower pace, while still being an active and available mother and supportive wife,” Hanna says.

“I don’t think that I will ever master the balance, but am always working towards creating continuity and a happy, peaceful environment for us. I wouldn’t be able to do this without an amazing team behind us. I’ve always said it takes a village to raise children.”
