Meghan Markle and the Modern Princess

Meghan Markle and the Modern Princess

Kensington Palace meets the City of Angels.

When rumours about a certain royal romance started running rampant, I’ll be the first to admit I just couldn’t get enough. We all fell in love with her as Rachel from Suits and our obsession has only increased as more info about Meghan Markle has come to light.

But it’s not all about how adorable the budding love-affair looks in the limelight. If Prince Harry does eventually pop the question (come on, make our dreams come true), how will the royals react to such a non-traditional union? It might be early days but we could be seeing the start of a new era of royals.

As a half Canadian, half African-American Hollywood actress, Meghan represents the oh-so-exciting merging of two opposing worlds. Eat your heart out, every Disney romance, ever. We’re looking at Meghan Markle: the modern-day princess.

Now, besides her obvious tiara-worthy elegance, Meghan is more like a princess than you might think. Her humanitarian work includes a role as the Global Ambassador for World Vision Canada and as a UN advocate. Committed to tackling gender inequality, Meghan Markle is already poised to succeed as a royal philanthropist, drawing parallels with Harry’s beloved mother, Diana, and Harry himself.

But will Meghan’s charity and grace be enough to remove the stigma surrounding Hollywood and Americans in general? That is something only time will tell. I mean, I never thought I could stand seeing Rachel with anyone but Mike Ross, but I’m already coming around to the idea of Prince Harry.

Fingers crossed for a diluted gene pool (hello, beautiful caramel babies) and a real-life princess in our favourite TV series. Now that’s 21st century royalty, if you ask me.
