Since it’s development in the early 20th Century, contemporary dance has grown exponentially, becoming one of the dominant genres for formally-trained dancers.
Led by internationally-acclaimed choreographer and Artistic Director Natalie Weir, Expressions Dance Company is Queensland’s premier contemporary dance theatre company.
The company has received much national and international recognition since its inception, including several Helpmann Awards and Australian Dance Awards.
This month, Expressions Dance Company and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre will present contemporary dance theatre at it’s very best in Natalie Weir’s new work, Behind Closed Doors.
Featuring at QPAC’s Playhouse Theatre, the performance will give audiences a peek through hotel room doors, exposing the private lives and inner thoughts of guests and staff alike.
“Behind Close Doors explores the playfulness and fragility of human nature,” says Natalie.
The performance showcases the beauty and athleticism of the contemporary genre.
“Natalie’s works speak of real human emotions and connections, and showcase the exciting and wonderful form of contemporary dance,” says dancer Elise May.
The kiss-and-tell performance features live jazz by award-winning Queensland trio Trichotomy, as well as special guests Kristin Bernardi and saxophonist Rafael Karlen.
“Performing with live music is an absolute pleasure and luxury as a dancer,” says Elise.
Behind Closed Doors will run from Friday, May 19 until Saturday, May 27. Tickets are available now from $59 but get in quick as they won’t last long!
