Kickstart Your Hormone Health Journey With Katherine Hay

Womb for improvement

By Natalie McGowan | 8th January 2025

This year, advocate for your health! I spoke with Katherine Hay, a clinical nutritionist in women’s health and gut wellness, about her inspiring endometriosis journey.

Can you share your journey to a Stage 4 Endometriosis diagnosis and how it shaped your approach to women’s health and nutrition?

Receiving a diagnosis for Stage 4 Endometriosis was a long and exhausting journey. Like many women, I faced years of being dismissed or misdiagnosed. It wasn’t until my cycles returned postpartum, that the bleed and pain became unmanageable that I sought out specialists who finally provided a diagnosis through Laparoscopy surgery. I have since had two surgeries in two years. This experience gave me a deep understanding of the challenges women face when navigating the healthcare system and advocating for themselves.

How did your postpartum experience shape your passion for supporting other women with similar challenges?

The exhaustion and new hormonal changes really opened my eyes to how under-supported mothers are during this time. This inspired me to create resources and nutritional protocols that are realistic, effective, and rooted in science. I’m passionate about helping women regain their energy and balance while feeling supported in their journey.

How does nutrition impact managing endometriosis, hormone imbalances, and fertility challenges?

Nutrition is foundational in supporting these conditions. With endometriosis, for example, reducing inflammation through an anti-inflammatory diet can significantly alleviate symptoms. Hormonal imbalances can often be addressed by stabilizing blood sugar levels and supporting liver detoxification with the right nutrients. For fertility challenges, focusing on nutrient-dense foods, optimising gut health, and addressing deficiencies like folate, iron, and omega-3s are crucial. Tailored nutrition allows the body to function optimally, supporting overall health and specific conditions.

What inspired you to launch Kaptured Nutrition and All Things Better, and how do your products support women’s fertility and postnatal journeys?

Kaptured Nutrition and All Things Better were born out of a desire to fill gaps I saw in women’s/people’s health care and to be able to care for as many people as possible on a larger scale. As a clinical nutritionist who has been practicing for over eight years in clinical practice, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges people face in accessing high-quality, evidenced-based, effective supplements. Our Natal Support supplement is designed to provide comprehensive preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum care with key nutrients to support these seasons of life.

What advice would you give to women who suspect they have endometriosis, given the challenges in getting a timely diagnosis?

If you suspect you have endometriosis, trust your instincts and advocate for yourself. Do not stop advocating for yourself until you are heard. Keep a detailed symptom diary and seek out a specialist — ideally a gynaecologist experienced with endometriosis. Early diagnosis can make a significant difference in managing symptoms and improving quality of life.

What’s next for you in your clinical practice and advocacy for women’s health?

The next chapter is all about growth and impact. I’m focused on expanding my clinic, Kaptured Nutrition, to reach more women through online programs and consultations. For All Things Better, we’re looking to develop new products that address additional gaps in people’s health – new formulations are already in the pipeline. I’m excited to share more in the new year.
