You have a massive networking event coming up. Potential clients and competitors will all be packed into one room and you want to make a good impression. You try to tell yourself to keep cool, calm and collected. You know you have about 35 seconds to introduce yourself and give them a rundown of why you and your organisation are amazing.
And you’re freaking out.
But a networking event doesn’t have to be stressful. Here’s how to ease your mind and start working the room like the queen bee.
1. Remember why you’re here
And remember that everyone is here for the same reason as you: to meet like-minded people, to be introduced to mentors and motivators, and to make valuable connections either professionally or personally. People want to meet you and they want to know your story.
2. Know your value
You know what you are talking about. Usually, only a select few people are chosen to represent the company at events like this. If you’re one of the chosen ones, it’s because your boss likes what you do and they trust you to knock this out of the park. Go get it!
3. Get the most out of it
These things are so valuable you’ll wonder why you haven’t been going to them for years. You’ll meet people who will inspire you with the way they’re pushing boundaries in the industry. You’ll have the opportunity to introduce your organisation to someone who has never heard of it before, or has been meaning to contact you for business, or is the perfect potential client.
4. Have fun
Whether there’s wine or coffee on offer, you’ll probably have some liquid courage available. (Just don’t get too crazy!) Pop on your favourite peep-toes, top up your mascara and work that room like you are hosting the event!
