Get the most out of single livin’

Enjoying your own company in your ‘alone time’ between relationships doesn’t mean you’re preparing to be ‘forever alone’.

I’m sure you would agree that if you want something done right, do it yourself… now I know that doesn’t appeal to many people who can see where this article is going, but hear me out, some things are simply better done single.

If you’re single in Brisbane, or anywhere for that matter and are  sick of endless ‘girls nights’, being set up with undesirables, smiling at people when they go ‘oh, you’re single? But you’re so (insert compliment here) when you’re not seeking flattery or pity… then I think it’s definitely time to appreciate your me-time before it’s too late!

Below are FIVE things best done single:

There’s something exciting and freeing about packing a backpack and jetting off to a far away destination with nothing concrete in mind. Going on a journey overseas with minimal plans and allowing yourself to take in everything that is around you can be an invigorating experience. Seeing the world and encountering different cultures and people can really open up your perspective on life and possibly even new beginnings or opportunities!

Consider enrolling in a course, class or watching YouTube tutorials (admit it, you’ve done it at least once) to learn a new skill or simply reignite an old one. Delving into something new may just unearth a new passion, hobby or career path!

Do what scares you, do what excites you or simply do something you’ve always wanted to do but never had the time or motivation to do. Whether this means being adventurous, daring or trying a new do or style that you simply would never have considered with your previous beau, being selfish can be beneficial for the soul, but perhaps not so great on the pockets.

Speaking of the ol’ bank account, depending on how you spend your single life it can be the perfect opportunity to save your pretty pennies. When you only have your own finances to worry about, it can be easier to set a budget and not be swayed by others. It may be difficult to avoid the sales racks or your favourite online stores bookmarked to your browser, but keeping an eye on the dollars can help you reap so many rewards… which can all be spent on NUMERO UNO.

This one can be fun when you’re single, especially when there is no possibility of a jealous boyfriend backlash. I’m not really sure why, but I am definitely a better wing woman when I’m single. I have even helped partner a relationship that has blossomed into a travelling romance of late! And when the date or the dude gets stale, a girls night can flourish, which despite my earlier comment on girls nights, are still pretty great!

A good friend once told me “Sometimes you have to savour downtime and be able to enjoy your own company, before you’re ready for sharing yourself once more…” Probably a little cliché, but I now see the value in investing in yourself.
