Gambaro Hotel Review

Petrie Terrace just got a whole lot fancier thanks to the new and super luxurious Gambaro Hotel. Kellie Alderman takes us inside.

It’s not often that a new boutique hotel opens it’s doors in Brisbane so it’s hard to compare the luxurious new Gambaro Hotel in Petrie Terrace to anything else on the local landscape.

For the reason that there’s not much competition in this sector of the hotel sphere, you could have almost forgiven the Gambaro brothers for sticking a shingle on any type of hotel and we would have been happy to have it as an addition to this under serviced market sector.

Lucky for us, they have not done that.

What they have done is go over and above all expectation in creating a refined and luxurious boutique hotel space that is arguably the best accommodation in Brisbane right now.

There’s all the hallmarks of a great international-standard hotel – a pillow menu (luxury goose down or micro silk?) room service from the multi-award winning Gambaro Seafood Restaurant, crazy comfy beds, linen with a thread count through the roof, a giant flat screen and bath robes and towels that feel like being wrapped in a cloud of cotton wool.

There is also more personal touches, like the delicious Appelles Apothecary & Lab range of bathroom amenities that feature organic essential oils and ingredients like sea buckthorn, willow bark and juniper berries and the house-made biscotti that are placed on your bed at turn down.

The hotel’s global feel could be put down to the international design firm, Hirsch Bedner, who have crafted a stylish look and feel that could be at home anywhere on the world stage but it’s the personal touches, like the suites named after members of the Gambaro family and the light installation featuring a crystal curtain and six giant sculptural fish chandeliers that speak of the family’s heritage that give it a personality and flavor.

There’s also an abundance of something most hotels do not have – fresh air. All the rooms have balconies so you don’t have to cope with 24/7 aircon.

Perfectly positioned for sports fans attending big games at Suncorp Stadium, the property is so close to the city or the boutique-shopping precinct of Paddington and under the leadership of GM, Murray Rodbotham (ex-Emporium), this place is a proud new addition to the hotel offer in our city.

To use a mixed up sport reference, the 68-room, four-story Gambaro Hotel punches way above its weight with a graceful right hook that will leave you dazzled.
