Names: Matthew Kill and Amelia Silva
Ages: 29 and 28
Occupations: Managing Director and Operations Manager, Monili Jewellers
Marital status: Dating for 2.5 years

How did you meet?

Amelia: We met working for the Queensland Department of Communities. Matthew started in the office while I was on holidays, so when I returned to work on that dreaded Monday I was pleasantly surprised with the new guy!

You work together at Monili – what’s it like working in such a close capacity?

Amelia: It’s nice to be with Matthew all day everyday. At times it’s hard to keep a defined line between work and home life issues. The biggest positive is that we are each other’s biggest supporter and we can lift each other in times when work is hard with a full understanding of what the other is going through.

What do you think is the key to a successful relationship?

Both of us believe that communication, honesty, friendship and a shared set of values is essential.

How do you manage to maintain the relationship while spending so much time together?

Amelia: We received great advice from someone in a similar situation.  He said ‘talk about work until you get to your driveway and then that’s it for the day.’ Since that advice Matthew and I have felt like our relationship has changed for the better.  We also try to at least once a week to have a “date night”, just to make us feel a little special and romantic.

Who’s the boss?

Amelia: I like to believe that Matthew is the “head” and that I’m the neck. We approach things collaboratively before Matthew makes the final decision for the business. At home there is no boss – we discuss everything and we try to find a happy compromise. We share the housework, but I often like to do it my way as I have a high standard of cleanliness.  I do appreciate Matthews attempt to help me clean though!

Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time?

We see ourselves happily married and with the business being well established. As long as we are together happy and healthy that’s all that matters

Marital Status:  married for 5 years, together for 11 years

How did you meet?

Laura: We met at the Regatta Hotel. I used to see him there every Sunday and go up to him and eat his hot dog! After two years of doing this, my friend asked him if he was ever going to ask for my number, and from that day we have been inseparable.

What do you think is the key to a successful relationship?

Laura: We both are very understanding of each other, and I send Jarrod everything via an outlook calendar message so he is across everything the kids and I are doing!

Who’s the boss?

Laura: I am definitely the driving force. I allow myself two days a week home with the kids, so house tasks generally get done then. Jarrod is away most of the football season as well.

Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time?

We both want to have moved forward with our careers, be living back closer to the city and showing our kids the world.

Names: Kellie Lazarus and Jason Klarwein
Ages: both 37
Occupations: Actors
Marital Status: Married 13 years

How did you meet?

Kellie: Jason and I grew up in Cairns, but our paths only crossed when we attended the same Arts degree at 19. We were close friends for the first year but it wasn’t until a production of William Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’ that our relationship blossomed.

What do you think is the key to a successful relationship?

Be empathetic and adaptable. We love to nurture each other’s passions. We work closely together on projects so it’s important we have our own space.

Who’s the boss?

Kellie: Jason hands down (laughs) – just kidding. We both like to take charge at certain times. I think we are good at sharing the load.

Where do you see yourselves in 5 years’ time?

We hope to spend a little more time overseas working with companies and directors we admire. We believe life is for living and the time is now.  Who knows where our next adventure might lie?
