What do you love most about your job?

Seeing a person's confidence build as their smile improves.  This equally applies to my young patients and to those adult patients who have waited years for treatment.  It really is fulfilling to see the positive changes we make to people's lives.

We love the SmileSeeker app idea! How does it work?

SmileSeeker is an app developed by Ethos, which can evaluate your smile and give you a recommendation of what treatment would best suit you. It’s done by first taking a photo of your smile, then answering a number of questions about your lifestyle. The app will then give you a personalised report outlining your options, treatment costs and length of treatment. But SmileSeeker isn't all serious - it's also a lot of fun! Suitable for all ages, the app is designed to make your orthodontic experience more positive. It even has an added mini game, called "cheeez", which allows you to "swap smiles" and have a little fun with family and friends, making a daunting process more exciting and light hearted.

What does it mean to have a great smile?

A great smile means a great bite and healthy teeth.  A great smile speaks volumes for a person's confidence and can light up a room.  Like it or not, people are judged more and more by their appearances and their smiles.  This is backed by numerous studies suggesting that employment prospects and personal life are improved by a great smile.

Tell us about Ethos lite

We developed Ethos lite in recognition that less complicated cases can be completed in a much shorter timeframe (six to nine months) while still delivering beautiful long-lasting smiles.  Plastic resin or porcelain veneers on the front teeth are a quick-fix to mask underlying crooked teeth.  Veneers don't last forever and can stain and discolour where they join to the teeth over time.  The benefit of Ethos lite orthodontics, over placing plastic or porcelain veneers on teeth, is you can achieve a wonderful natural looking smile with your very own teeth and then perhaps enhance that smile with some tooth bleaching.

Can anyone get it?

Ethos lite is suitable for those people with a good bite and only mild irregularity or spacing.  Even if you don't fit that less-complicated category, you might still be surprised how quickly orthodontics with braces or Invisalign can transform a smile.

Is it affordable?

Yes!  Treatment costs with Ethos lite are roughly 40% less than a full orthodontic treatment.  We give a fixed quote so there are no unpleasant surprises!

Invisalign is amazing too - teeth straightening without all the metal! Can it anyone get it?

Invisalign is a great innovation that, after 12 years in Australia, has the "runs on the board".  It can be used in most cases where braces can be used. We won’t suggest or advise Invisalign in situations where we think braces may be better: severe crowding or extraction cases are two examples.  That said, the great majority of cases are suitable for Invisalign and in some situations it works faster that braces.

Lastly, why should people choose to see an Orthodontist over a Dentist?

General Dentists have a broad range of skills and some have done short courses to enable them to do simple orthodontics.  Orthodontists are dentists who have undertaken an additional three full-time years of study in a university-based Master’s degree program.  Orthodontists are board registered specialists who don't do general dentistry and instead focus on achieving the best possible result for your smile in the most efficient time-frame; often for less cost than if done by a general dentist.  Even simple cases can have their challenges and Orthodontists are best equipped technically and academically for such challenges.
