Every Event To Hit Up In Brisbane This November

Every Event To Hit Up In Brisbane This November

Including a special 'dog lovers' show.

By Melissa Myrteza | 30th October 2018

If we are being honest, November is potentially the best month of the year. Studies are coming to an end, summer is well and truly working its magic, work commitments are dwindling, and of course, we can start seriously shopping for Christmas advent calendars! Yes, Xmas markets are finally in season. While our pop-up summer bazaars aren’t quite on par with Germany’s snow-covered, gingerbread-filled Christmas markets, we’d like to think we do pretty well.

The Brisbane Showground is literally booked to the brim with music events, animal shows and crafty markets next month. November is the month of artesian markets for those dedicated to gifting truly epic Chrissy pressies and killer concerts set to rock your socks off.

Eye Gazing | Saturday, 3 Nov

The Human Collective Movement is bringing us a free event that isn’t for the faint of heart. It is for those who dominate in the blinking game, who are up for the ultimate social challenge. But seriously, this event is for those who find words to be a barrier and are after a more intimate non-verbal connection. Take a moment to disconnect from the digital world and sit in silent meditation, connecting with others in a holistic natural environment. Don’t worry, the event page has instructions on the art of gazing, so you too can become an expert before the big day. Get yourself to Orleigh Park, West End from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

Studio 54 Disco Party | Saturday, Nov 3

It’s back and we’re so ready. The End is hosting yet another Studio 54 party, satisfying our seasonal disco cravings. Sometimes, the Bee Gees on repeat just won’t do it. This event is stepping it up with Howie Z ready to mix the best tunes of the 70s – bring on the disco fever! A bit of boogie paired with 70s style cocktails and adornments will make your disco threads blend in seamlessly. Dress to impress and you may just take home the prize.

Dog Lovers Show | Saturday, Nov 3 – Sunday, Nov 4

On the 3rd of November, the Brisbane Showgrounds are hosting a dog lover’s dream event. Christmas has come early for puppy fiends and aged canine devotees. The Dog Lover’s Show is dedicated both to dogs and to the humans who love them. Expect educational talks, K9 stories galore and the cutest videos ready to make owners swoon. This is the ultimate playground of happiness for adults. With a pet circle stage, a Royal Canin arena, a breed showcase and a dog adoption zone, get ready to be hit right in the feels.

Brisbane SS18 Finders Keepers | Friday, Nov 9 – Sunday, Nov 11

With entry costing only $5 and children under 12 allowed in for free, this is the perfect family-friendly event at the Brisbane Showgrounds!

Recreate Fashion Show | Friday, Nov 16

In celebration of National Recycling Week, Brisbane Twilight Markets is hosting Recreate Fashion Show! This paper-exclusive event is a necessary moment to stop and appreciate our city for the sustainable wonder it is. The Recreate Fashion Show is a recycling-themed couture fashion showcase presented by Brisbane City Council and VISY Recycling, celebrating Brisbane’s recycling efforts and initiatives. The showcase aims to inspire attendees to recycle more for a cleaner, greener city, while also encouraging guests to get creative about sustainable fashion.

After the show, shop at handmade artesian market stalls, enjoy free paper craft activities, nibble at your choice of food trucks and bask in awe of the fashion couture moments that are set to make fast fashion a thing of the past.

Usher | Friday, Nov 16

Usher, Usher. Where? The Brisbane Showgrounds of course! Headlining the RNB Fridays Live Australian tour, Usher is the 2000s flashback we didn’t even know we needed. Joined by Salt N Pepa, Naughty By Nature, Trey Songz, Fatman Scoop, T-Pain AND a mystery act, we are ready to bring back these RNB classics. While some may have new albums, we’re obviously there for the songs that rule our gym playlists: ‘Push it’ and “Put Your Hands Up.” Try not to dance, we dare you!

Indoor Plant Pop-Up Shop | Saturday, Nov 17

Another plant pop-up is here to help us reach those indoor plant goals. Is there really a limit? Little Urban Oasis is hosting this gorgeously green event at Woolloongabba Substation. Sourcing a huge range of plants and handmade pots (by a local ceramicist), you can expect the classic fig leaves and some rarer treasures. With a dedicated potting station to help you look after your newest additions, these plants have a seriously high chance of survival. There will be a food truck serving up the goods so it looks like a wholesome start to weekend antics.

Meraki Fashion Show | Saturday, Nov 17

While disabled models have featured on international catwalks and in fashion editorials across the world, Australia really is behind the times. This extra special evening will put those living with disabilities front-and-centre and give them the opportunity to show Brisbane locals that disability on the runway is beautiful. One model hitting the runway is the stunning Lisa Cox, who is known across Australia as one of our best journalists, authors and presenters. The Celebrity VIP Hostess Bec McMillan (inspirational icon, author, fashion designer and actress) will be on the mic. Renowned for making an amazing impact on the microphone with her infectious energy, the show promises to bring a mixture of diversity, elegance, a feeling of exclusivity and of course a memorable event that will leave a positive impact on your life!

Meet Dr Karl | Friday, Nov 23

For those of you that missed our local genius at the Writers Festival, Dr Karl Kruszelnicki is resurfacing, and this time for free! Astounding local Brisbanites with his expansive knowledge and quick responses, Triple J’s house scientist is coming to Dymocks on Queen Street. Bring along a copy of his newest novel “Karl, the Universe and Everything” to get it signed! Discover the answers to scientific questions you didn’t even know were burning in the back of your mind. This is the ultimate educational event to begin your weekend on an intelligent note (before Saturday night, of course).

Brisbane Etsy Made Local Market | Friday, 23 Nov

Yes, yet another epic event is coming to the Brisbane Showgrounds. Tickets are cheaper than a Maccas BLT and it’s set to be one seriously festive event. Christmas markets are your go-to for early present shopping to avoid the stress of the last-minute shopping centre flurry. Featuring some of Brisbane’s best Etsy sellers, designers and vintage sellers, there will be 150 sellers, food trucks, drinks, live music and workshops to enjoy. Happy shopping!

Jungle Love Festival | Thursday, 29 Nov – Saturday, Dec 1

After such a big build-up, Jungle Love Music and Arts Festival is finally rolling around. This boutique rainforest festival on the Sunshine Coast will be showcasing establishing artists and performers, prioritizing quality, character and performance. A riverside festival will make camping that much easier with water aerobics on offer alongside moonlight activities. This is set to put school camp to shame. BYO festivals are the future of music, making them affordable and much more entertaining. Headlines include OPIUO, Kenta Hayashi, Mad Professor and China Bowls for this three-day tropical adventure.

The Wombats | Friday, 30 Nov

There are still tickets left to the Wombats at the Riverstage! Whether you’ve watched them religiously or have yet to enjoy the melodic sounds of one of Brisbane’s most loved English pop bands, this is your chance. Their latest album Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life will be showcased, with singles like “Lemon to A Knife Fight” perfectly summing up their quirky lyrics.
