Showgrounds To The Scenic Rim

No showgrounds? No worries!

In case you missed it, the Ekka has gone online for 2020! And even though things might be a looking a little out of the ordinary this year, vendors, producers and traders are doing everything within their power to turn this year’s event from ordinary to extraordinary!

Introducing a group of passionate Scenic Rim locals and primary producers who are determined to keep the Ekka experience alive for 2020. These guys, who would normally bring their wares to the Ekka each year, have pivoted in the most exciting way possible; since they can’t bring the country to you, they’re bringing you to the country!

Destination Scenic Rim are playing their part in the festivities by hosting their inaugural ‘City Comes To The Country’ event from August 7-16 to celebrate the best of Queensland agriculture and the spirit of the Ekka.

A wide range of events are planned to encourage city slickers from Brisbane, the Gold Coast and surrounds to come and experience an authentic slice of the outback during this celebration. Scenic Rim Brewery owner, Mike Webster, says “we have so much to offer and we want our visitors to learn where their food comes from, meet the producers, shop local, and stay for the day or longer.”

Located only an hour’s drive from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast, these guys are certainly ready for a celebration with 14 events planned over the nine-day schedule. Dallas Davidson from Towri Sheep Cheeses is looking forward to hosting a traditional high tea on their property and has just announced a special guest chef, who will be travelling from the city especially for this event. “We’re so excited to announce that Signature Emporium’s Executive Pastry Chef, Alex Liddle, will be bringing her magic to our Towri High Tea,” Dallas says.

And the fun doesn’t stop there! There are plenty of fun and educational activities for the whole family to enjoy. Why not snap a selfie with a camel at the Farm Café, fill an empty esky with produce on the farm gate trail, or take an Italian cooking class? And on Friday August 14, enjoy an afternoon feeding the animals and wandering the vineyard before you embrace your inner cowboy or cowgirl and ride the mechanical bull!

Whilst we may not be able to experience the Ekka like we had imagined, we’re pretty confident that visiting these providores is the next best thing! To get your tickets, head to destinationscenicrim.com and remember, numbers are limited – so get in quick!
