Amidst all the Sex and the City binge watching, a gal might learn a lesson or two, or a few. When it comes down to general life and relationships, Carrie Bradshaw is a go-to for her wisdom – fictional or not. Whether it’s being more reluctant to order a Cosmopolitan or applying her advice to your life, you can’t deny she has a point worth thinking about. In light of all of her eye-opening monologues and all things shoes, here is what we’ve learnt from Carrie Bradshaw.
IT’S OK TO HAVE LOTS OF SHOES
This is something I learnt early on in life but Carrie Bradshaw just reaffirmed my original beliefs. While I may not have the funds to put towards my own Manolo Blahnik’s (the day will come, I assure you), I can definitely run to my local shopping centre and impulse-purchase my little heart out in the name of shoes. New shoes are fulfilling, exciting and I don’t blame Carrie Bradshaw in the slightest for influencing women’s shoe purchases around the world. In fact, I applaud her.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO FEEL GUILTY DOING NOTHING
You know those days where you have the freedom to do…nothing? They’re called Sundays (obviously after singing along to Shania Twain while vacuuming). As fabulous as you may be, as busy as you are during the week, Carrie has taught us the art of balance and that it’s totally fine to stuff your face with food while watching TV. And when’s a better time to stuff your face than when Carrie and Mr. Big are going through relationship dramas? “Quick, pass the sakata’s!”
IF YOU WANT A COSMOPOLITAN, HAVE A DAMN COSMOPOLITAN
I never thought I’d have such a strong desire for Cosmo’s until I started watching Sex and the City. Anything that makes me feel like Carrie Bradshaw and is the colour pink is A-OK with me! Carrie taught us that Cosmo’s are not just a want, but a must and a go-to when putting in the next round of cocktails. Heck, she taught us cocktails in general are ALWAYS ok to have. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere, right?
HAVING A LOVE AFFAIR WITH MAGAZINES IS ENCOURAGED
Magazines, my one true love. It just so happens Carrie Bradshaw is the epitome of a magazine-loving fashionista. What an idol! It’s fine to hyperventilate in the episode where Carrie goes to the Vogue office in New York (and be totally jealous too) #careergoals. You know you have a problem when magazines feed your soul...and we all said “amen”.
CLOTHES ARE PEOPLE TOO
Not only does Carrie give us major #shoeenvy, but her wardrobe is just as impressive. Carrie’s outfits were quirky, fun and her love for luxurious brands such as Prada and Chanel helped us learn that clothes are people too and with that knowledge, we shall treat them with respect. Swear on Chanel!
GIRLFRIENDS ARE THE BEST EVER
There’s nothing better than meeting up with your best gals for brunch to discuss the news of the world (or the news of your love life). You know you won’t be judged, they’re there for you when need reassurance that you’re not a crazy lady when it comes to men and it’s always nice to catch up and have the love and support of your best friends. Not to mention they are brutally honest and give the best advice. One of my favourite quotes from the honorable and credible Carrie Bradshaw...
"maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.” – so wise.
