Plants can turn your home into a serene, soothing, ambient space where you can take refuge from the outside world. Plants in the modern age have become more than just a trend taking over gardens, weddings and home decor – they are holistic feel-good additions to your home that are also incredibly good for your health. Whether you live in a small apartment or large house, by introducing certain indoor plants into your home you can significantly improve your health and overall happiness.

We have gathered some of the best nurseries to check out around Brisbane to help you in picking the perfect plant to add colour, life and vitality to your home.

Eden Gardens | Carseldine

This houseplant haven more than lives up to its namesake with flourishing foliage and beautiful blooms housed under a soaring roof in an oasis of cool. Visiting the nursery will become your new favourite hobby when there’s this much to do. Any budding venture you have in mind will be brought to life with the helping hand of the Eden Gardens’ team. Armed with the best advice for all kinds of living arrangements, they have a fresh solution for every space.

Eden Gardens are also always looking to share the lush love, which is why they also offer an engaging calendar of talks, demos and workshops to help you thrive. From crafting the perfect terrarium to building your first kokedama, they’ll provide you with all the tips and tricks you need up your gardening gloves. Plus, if your green vision is yet to sprout, a stroll through their own garden will no doubt have you inspired. Plants, pots and homewares are packed into every nook and cranny, and when your leaves begin to droop and you need to be watered, Eden’s alfresco café is open daily (and fully licenced!).

Mappins Nursery | West End

Wander through this converted West End warehouse and you will find an eclectic, curated and diverse selection of plants, terrarium, fish and water gardens. Mappins stocks some of Brisbane’s biggest range of small and miniature plants and are particularly well known for creating terrariums. If you aren’t sure what a terrarium is, it is the creation of a complete ecosystem encased in glass – so basically, living artwork.

Whether you are wanting to create a miniature rainforest, desert or a haven for your pretty plants, Mappins has a wide range of plants, soils, gravels and feature pieces, and even holds an extensive range of tillandsias (air plants) and mosses, adding the finishing touches to your terrarium. If you are wanting some more advice and guidance in creating your first terrarium or want to expand/grow your current one, attend one of Mappins Nursery’s terrarium workshops where a professional designer can guide you in making your green masterpiece.

All The Green Things | West End

Also located in West End, All The Green Things specialises in succulents, cacti and many other indoor plants, and are most commonly known for their locally made ceramics. Ranging from pretty pot plants to desert dreams, All The Green Things is run by two mums who swapped their office jobs for plant life and are obsessed with everything green, local and eco-friendly. Does that not sound like the ultimate career goal?! Their selection is truly stunning and even if you're only nursing a small love of plants, one perusal of their nursery and you will be completely plant obsessed.

The Borrowed Nursery | Mermaid Beach

While not technically Brisbane, this Mermaid Beach nursery is well-worth the drive down south. The Borrowed Nursery works closely with its clients and customers to ensure the perfect space for the perfect plant. This boutique bursts with greenery, flora and aesthetically coloured spaces, alongside a collection of candles and ceramics. Owner Lauren Lance is an incredibly talented botanical stylist and knows a thing or two about plants. Rather than your usual stock standard variety, The Borrowed Nursery specialises in high-quality house plants, low maintenance plants, combining aesthetics and practicality perfectly. Just look for their bright white warehouse and insta-worthy peach door.

Oxley Nursery | Oxley

It’s a garden centre with a difference. One of Brisbane largest nurseries for tropical plants, trees and palms, it’s the Oxley Nursery. Boasting a strong horticultural legacy, this quirky nursery, unlike any other, only stocks plants that will strongly thrive in Brisbane’s subtropical conditions. Owners, Andy and Caitlin Roy have had experience in the planting industry for over 25 years and truly understand the challenges of growing plants in South East Queensland and the limits of our climate.

Oxley Nursery strongly prides itself on being a garden centre for gardeners, ensuring that plant-lovers, new and old can peruse from a tremendously extensive range of rare and exotic plants. Take all the thyme you need, as you’ll never know the precious gems you could find here!

Brookfield Garden Centre | Brookfield

Seriously, you could spend an entire day here and still feel like there is so much more to discover! With every variety of house and garden plant you can imagine – from potted flowers to ready-to-plant cacti – you're sure to find something that catches your eye. Their on-site gift house also makes it easier than ever to get a little design inspo if you are uncertain what to do with your green finds. Plus, their on-site café & restaurant Wild Canary is worth the trip itself! Definitely stop by for a post-shopping treat.
