If there is one gift that is always guaranteed to impress on Mother’s Day, it’s the inexpensive gift of quality time. And while this might sound like a bit of a cop-out, we have heard on good authority (e.g. our mums) that while flowers and breakfast in bed are wonderful to receive, what they really appreciate is the opportunity to enjoy some one-on-one bonding time.

Up your Mother’s Day bonding game with one of the epic events taking place across Brisbane throughout May! With everything from picnic parties to outdoor romantic comedies, there are plenty of opportunities to score favourite child of the year.

Pop-Up Cinema

If your special lady considers herself a bit of a cinephile, treat her to an open-air screening of a classic romantic comedy! Throughout the month of May, the CBD’s Post Office Square will be transformed into a cinema under the stars, perfect for lounging back and taking in a post-work flick. Start the month off with the iconic 10 Things I Hate About You on May 2nd, follow it up with the star-studded He’s Just Not That Into You on May 9th, enjoy the clever and cute Home Again on May 16th, and finally, wrap it all up Crazy Stupid Love (easily one of Ryan Gosling’s best flicks) on May 23rd. From 5 pm each night you can enjoy eats courtesy of the recently opened Isles Lane, as well as a selection of tipples and brews (don’t skip the rosé!). For $20, pick up a mini grazing-box-for-2 which will include all the snacks you could want, such as pear, rocket & walnut salad, cheese, cold meats, crackers and cherry & chocolate brownies! Plus, there will be outdoor rugs set up if you forget to pack your own.

Memory Lane

From May 8th to May 12th, Queen Street Mall will be home to an epic-sized game of Memory! The large-scale replication of the memory card game is an interactive, nostalgic treat with prizes galore. If you’re unfamiliar with the childhood game, it’s pretty simple. Each player will have 3 attempts to turn over sets of cards to find a match. With $60,000 worth of giveaways up for grabs, why wouldn’t you throw your hat in the ring? Try your luck (and your skills) for your chance to win some pretty amazing prizes that double as the perfect Mother’s Day gift! Prizes include dining vouchers from some of the CBD’s best hotspots, a luxury overnight stay at Treasury Casino, Elizabeth Picture Theatre movie tickets, double-passes to Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and more.

Gigs & Picnics

Whether she considers herself a bit of a muso or just likes to be surrounded by nature, the City Botanic Gardens will be the ultimate destination for an afternoon of bonding. For every Saturday of May, the City Botanic Gardens will be transformed into a garden oasis of live music and relaxing picnics. If you think you make a mean grazing platter, bring your own picnic basket and set up at one of the picnic rugs and treat your mum to a delish spread. Or, if you prefer to let someone else take care of the cooking, take advantage of the onsite food trucks that will be delivering all sorts of mouth-watering bites. Then, let the soft sound of live jazz reggae and folk set the soundtrack to your afternoon. Honestly, this is an afternoon that she will love to share with you this Mother’s Day!
