Brisbane Festival is on our doorstep once more, so whether you’re hungry for dance, theatre, acrobatics, art or comedy, we’ve come up with the top five events to tickle your fancy.

Brisbane Festival is back and with a horde of events planned for the month, we've picked five events worth adding to your calendar.

1 Club Swizzle

With cabaret, air-defying acrobatics and infectious musical revelry, it will feel like you've will travel to another world. No stage, no rules and no regrets, this place is one of a kind.

Friday September 4 to 26
Tickets: $60 to $70
Location: The Spiegeltent, South Bank

2 Velvet

A disco-inferno infused cabaret taking you to the glamorous, sexy world of singers, dancers and acrobats. Dust off those dancing shoes and buy your ticket to this boogie wonderland.

Wednesday September 16 to 26
Tickets: $49 to $58
Location: Brisbane Powerhouse, New Farm

3 I Am Brisbane

Featuring original portraits of people who epitomise Brisbane. The exhibition will feature the top 30 finalists, with winners and runners up decided on its opening day.

Location: Judith Wright Centre, Fortitude Valley

4 Minne and Mona Play Dead

A play within a play filled with twists and turns from the grave. Autobiography, slapstick and satire are all present to entertain.

Tuesday September 8 to 12
Tickets: Adult $25 | Concession $20
Location: The Loft, Musk Avenue, Kelvin Grove

5 Riverfire

Watch as Brisbane’s sky is lit up with fabulous fireworks and a pyrotechnic extravaganza. Good vantage points include Victoria Bridge, South Bank, Kangaroo Point Cliffs or City Riverwalk. Kick back, relax and bid farewell to the busiest three weeks of Brisbane’s cultural calendar with a bang.

...And for the more adventurous festival goers, how does drinking through your eyeballs sound? OK we KNOW this is technically six things, but we couldn't not mention the cloud bar, a truly bizarre and sensory experience.
