Bonnie Lythgoe finds epic cast for Snow White

Renowned industry great, Bonnie Lythgoe, has been scouring the nation to see if the shoe fits an Australian beauty for the next hit fairytale production, Snow White.

With an exceptionally successful career spanning more than 30 years, Bonnie Lythgoe’s resume is riddled with high profile productions and some of the world’s biggest names in entertainment. The accomplished performer has worked with the likes of Neil Patrick Harris, Stevie Wonder and Olivia Newton-John. With such a winning career, Bonnie knows a thing or two about talent.

Following on from her success in discovering fresh talent on So You Think You Can Dance (US and Australia), Bonnie was aiming to discover hidden gems for her production here in Australia. “I always like to hold an open audition to see if there’s some raw talent that needs an opportunity,” she says. “It takes more time, but if the [talent] may be there I am ready to take the audition for as long as it takes.”

Bonnie has uncovered the fairest of them all after a nation-wide search to find the perfect Snow White for an Australian Musical production. It was recently announced that Erin Clare has been cast in the starring role for the show. The Sydney local was plucked from obscurity after beating over 300 other hopefuls following a performance in front of a celebrity judging panel.

Erin graduated from Lasalle in Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Musical Theatre just last year and moved back to Australia in the hopes of catching her big break. Her fairytale has come true, as she will perform alongside a stellar cast including Magda Szubanski, Kyle Sandilands, Sir Cliff Richard, Jimmy Rees, Peter Everett and Josh Adamson. “I am so excited to play Snow White, it’s a dream role for me,” she says. “I’m thrilled to join this incredible cast on stage.”

Bonnie Lythgoe could not speak more highly of the rising star, “Erin has that X Factor, that extra something, a great personality, good comic timing, a real romantic and she sings and acts as if she has been working for years. It is hard to believe this is her first professional job,” she says.

With such a promising lead and a high-profile cast to back it up, it appears that Snow White will be a sure hit. Bonnie Lythgoe will utilise her winning pantomime formula for the production after her adaptation of Cinderella was met with sellout shows in Hollywood.

The well-loved tale of Snow White will be injected with a modern and comedic element through contemporary music, audience involvement and a script laden with pop culture references. The script is also co-written by Magda Szubanski, so the crowd is sure to be treated to a show filled with Australian flare and humour.

Bonnie hopes that the show will be a “trendy and modern” adaptation that audiences will fall in love with. “I’m trying to get away from people thinking ‘Oh it’s panto, it’s old fashioned’.” Although Erin’s prince is yet to be crowned, The Snow White – Winter Family Musical will be a hysterically funny, raucous show and a hit for all ages.
