A New Chapter For One Of Brisbane’s Most Iconic Hotels
taking it to a whole new level
By Tracy Sinclair | 16th October 2026A landmark address, a celebrated architectural legacy and a multimillion-dollar transformation. InterContinental Brisbane is preparing for its next era.
Brisbane’s luxury hotel landscape continues to evolve, and one of the city’s most recognisable addresses is about to take centre stage. InterContinental Brisbane is embarking on an ambitious transformation, bringing a new design perspective, destination dining, and understated luxury to its landmark Queen Street home.
What can we expect from the new InterContinental Brisbane transformation?
Occupying the celebrated Harry Seidler-designed building, the hotel has long been a part of Brisbane’s architectural identity. Now, acclaimed global design studio Woods Bagot is reimagining the property, balancing its modernist heritage with a contemporary aesthetic that feels distinctly Brisbane.
Warm natural stone, rich timbers, sculptural furnishings and a sophisticated palette will bring a sense of relaxed elegance to the interiors, drawing inspiration from the city’s subtropical character. The hotel’s soaring atrium will be reworked to celebrate natural light, while guestrooms and suites will be entirely refreshed, expanding the property to 324 rooms.

InterContinental’s new hospitality offering
The new hospitality offering will see an Argentinian grill restaurant, an intimate Italian pasta and wine bar, and a reimagined lobby bar designed to become a destination in its own right. Club InterContinental will take up residence on Level 6, overlooking Queen Street Mall and the Edward Street luxury precinct, while a new spa, gym and pool deck will bring a considered approach to wellness and outdoor living.

The investment reflects a city in the midst of its own transformation. With an evolving collection of luxury hotels, world-class dining, and cultural destinations, Brisbane is finding a new confidence on the international stage, and its hospitality scene is following suit.
The transformation begins in October 2026, with completion anticipated in late 2027. The hotel will remain open throughout, welcoming guests as its next chapter takes shape. For bookings and further details, visit InterContinental Brisbane.
