7 Signs Your Mum May Actually Be Your Bestie

7 Signs Your Mum May Actually Be Your Bestie

AND that's totally okay!

By Candice Jackson | 28th April 2016

We all know we can’t choose family (we’re sort of stuck with them), but we CAN choose our friends. And when they just happen to be one and the same, that’s pretty special.

Best friends are special people who understand each other, trust each other and are there for each other through the hard times, the good time sand the hide-under-a-rock embarrassing times. As we’ve gotten older, it’s easier to see why our mothers could actually qualify as our besties as we have so much in common. Like mother, like daughter, right?

How many of these bestie behaviours do you and your mother share?

1. She’ll Always Come To Your Defence

When it feels like the whole world is out to get you, she’ll always stand by you. She’ll always ask for your side of the story and give you the benefit of the doubt, even if it turns out to be your fault. There’s no way anyone can say a bad word about you without hearing from her!

2. She’ll Give You Tough Love When It’s Needed

Like most best friends, you’re never going to see eye to eye on everything. And as your mother, she won’t let you get away with treating yourself or someone else poorly, having a terrible attitude or making a bad decision. But no matter your differences of opinion, you’ll always accept each other’s point of view – it’s coming from a place of love, after all.

3. She’ll Help You With Embarrassing Stuff No One Else Would Dare

She taught you how to shave and told you about the birds and the bees – no conversation is too embarrassing. She’s also seen everything, so she doesn’t even flinch when you want a second opinion on some embarrassing body situation or need help popping a massive blackhead.

4. The Hugs Are Next-Level Amazing

Best friends can always give a hug that makes everything feel warm and safe, but no one can ever replicate the hug of a mother.

4. She Knows How To Make You Laugh

All best friends have inside jokes and are in tune with each other’s humour, but a mother truly knows how to bring out that awful hyena cackle or snorting laugh with just one look or sentence.

6. She’s ALWAYS The First Person You Call When You’re Having A Terrible Day

She just knows how to calm you down and make everything feel better. And she’s also the first person you’ll call when something amazing happens, like after your first date with Mr Right or when you aced that job interview.

7. You Can Communicate Without Words

It’s an unspoken rule that that look means “Are you really wearing that?” And that look means “Calm your farm”, while that look means “Stop. Stop talking NOW.” And that look means “I’m so proud of you!”
