We’ve found 21 films to get you in the Vegas mindset… Double or nothing!

With our ultimate Vegas-getaway competition on the cards, we have Vegas on our minds and think you should too!

Nevada’s ‘Sin City’ has been the perfect setting for films involving gangsters, gambling, shotgun weddings, and all things debaucherous, so we have compiled a list of 21 films to get you in the mood for some dice rolling and poolside martini drinking... Get your popcorn at the ready!

1. Ocean’s 11 (2001)

This story of Lady Luck may conjure up a little more confidence in your gambling skills than it possibly should with the ever-so-slick Ocean and his team of con artists who work their magic on burgling multiple casinos along the Strip in one night. Not only will it satisfy your need for the Vegas gambling scene, the cast of Clooney, Pitt and Damon will go quite easily on the eyes also.

2. Viva Las Vegas (1964)

The 1960s Elvis classic will unwillingly have you singing the theme song all the way across the Pacific. In true Elvis style, this film is a typical romance with Elvis and Ann-Margret singing and dancing their way to the White Chapel.

3. National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation (1997)

This list wouldn’t be complete without a cheesey movie or two – this one definitely is, but is nevertheless an old favourite. Vegas Vacation is a fun movie to watch and have a laugh – if not only at the 90s fashion trends. The Griswolds head to Vegas on a family holiday, lead by the one and only Chevy Chase, which follows a string of misadventures and misfortunes that only the Griswolds could get into.

4. The Hangover (2009)

This hilarious Stag-do comedy is pretty much what NOT to do in Vegas, though I think most males might disagree. Partying, gambling, tiger stealing, losing a tooth and also the Stag proves what happens in Vegas really should stay there – if you can remember what happened at all. Which brings us to our next film…

5. What Happens in Vegas (2008)

Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher head the cast in this rom-com where the two meet in Vegas, party together and then get married, as you do, only to wake up the next morning to regret the whole ordeal. Kutcher’s character Jack then hits the jackpot and his newly wedded wife demands half the prize money.

6. Last Vegas (2013)

A lineup of golden oldies Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline bring us a more senior and slightly slower paced version of The Hangover when the sixty-something year olds head to Vegas for Billy’s (Michael Douglas) Buck’s do and wedding, and to relive their ‘glory days’.

7. Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous (2005)

Maybe not quite sharing the hype of it’s prequel, but Miss Congeniality 2 still ticks all the boxes with Sandra Bullock (aka Gracie Hart) as an FBI agent and all round #girlboss.

8. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

Hunter S. Thompson trials all the sins Vegas has on offer in this visually creative and classic full of casinos, acid trips, reptiles and realising the American Dream. The opening scene of Thompson (Depp) and his lawyer driving through the desert in a convertible from LA to Vegas will get you excited for the big city lights.

9. Showgirls (1995)

A young drifter, named Nomi, arrives in Las Vegas to become a dancer and soon sets about clawing and pushing her way to become the top of the Vegas showgirls.

10. Bugsy (1991)

One of the most infamous mobsters ‘Bugsy’ Siegel takes on Hollywood to build up syndicate gambling rackets.

11. Casino (1995)

Martin Scorsese’s classic has all the workings of a classic Vegas movie – corruption, crime, love, mafia, and of course – gambling (lots of it!).

12. Casino Royale (2006)

The list wouldn’t be complete without a sexy 007 film included. Take notes from Bond’s gambling and tuxedo-dressing skills while he confidently sips on a martini, shaken not stirred.

13. Honeymoon in Vegas (1992)

Starring a young Nicholas Cage and Sarah Jessica Parker, this movie follows the story of a couple who decide to tie the knot in Vegas… naturally!

14. Diamonds are Forever (1971)

Ok… so this list wouldn’t be complete without TWO sexy 007 films included… And this one starring Sean Connery is a classic.

15. Swingers (1996)

Apparently made for less than $300,000, this movie was a surprising hit and follows a struggling actor trying to make a living in LA, when he makes an impromptu trip to the ‘City of Sin’.

16. The Godfather Part II (1974)

Part 2 of the epic saga of the Corleone family – the pinnacle of all Vegas movies!

17. Get Him to the Greek (2010)

Jonah Hill and Russell Brand… what more can you ask for? His movie is hilarious and an absolute must-see... Stroke the furry wall!

18. The Cooler (2003)

You guessed it… Another gambling movie! William Macy plays an extremely unlucky gambler who is hired by the casino as a “cooler” – someone who will use their bad luck to bring about misfortune to other gamblers.

19. 21 (2008)

Based on a true story, 21 follows the story of MIT students who are trained to become experts in counting cards and subsequently take millions in winnings from Vegas casinos.

20. Pay It Forward (2000)

Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt and Haley Joel Osment star in the emotional movie about an 11 year-old boy who starts a social movement surrounding the concept of ‘paying it forward’.

21. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)

World-class playboy and part-time special agent, Austin Powers (Mike Myers) is defrosted after 30 years in a cryogenic freeze to match wits with his nemesis, Dr. Evil (also played by Myers).
