If we’re being honest, this winter has been long, cold and exhausting. What we need right now is for something epic to add a pep to our step. Something such as a new bar opening, perhaps? Enter: X Cargo, the brand new concept bar that we’ve been waiting months for!
Situated a block behind Ann St and James St, X Cargo is a dining-cross-bar multi-level party destination that rivals anything we’ve seen yet. Officially opening late July, the bar has been making headlines continually since it’s announcement over a year ago, but it’s opening its doors just in time to tempt us with their California-summer inspired vibes and tropical terraces.
If you’re unfamiliar with X Cargo, first of all, have you been living under a rock? Second of all, you can get up-to-date with all the info here.
Now that we’re all on the same page let’s continue. We caught up with Collectivus, the team behind the stellar design and décor of X Cargo, to learn more about the project, inspiration and what it’s like to design Brisbane’s newest ”it-venue”.
More than just a bar or a restaurant, X Cargo is a multi-functional space that defies characterisation. Thirsty punters will find multiple bars and dining areas to explore, including their very own food truck alley that will host different local food truck heroes. The venue will also transform from night-to-day as the perfect destination for a morning coffee hit, a casual lunch or a Sunday hair-of-the-dog. Add to the mix multiple rooftop terraces and an outdoor cinema and you’ve got the incredible X Cargo!
Such a bold concept needs experimental design, which is what drove Collectivus to push the boundaries of design. Collectivus explains, “We are seeing a lot of venues follow similar trends, so its great to work with a client who wasn’t scared to step outside of the box.” From the second you step off the street and into X Cargo you’re immersed in a stunning destination where you can socialise, relax and explore the best of Brisbane.
When it comes to the influences in the design, its subtropical-Queensland locale definitely had a hand. From open spaces and tropical greenery, the summery aesthetic of X Cargo is a fusion of the world’s most popular beach destinations – we’re talking about the Caribbean, Hawaii, Bali and more. From the colour palette to the bold graphics, the furniture right through to the plant selection, each corner of X Cargo feels like a coastal escape.
Not only is the concept of the venue unique, so is the aesthetic and design. Seeing the end result of the project is something that has had the foodies of Brisbane on tenterhooks for months, and for the Collectivus team, they believe it’s well worth the wait; “Creating the concept at the start of the project is always an incredible part of the process but then seeing the vision become a reality when the build is finished is truly breathtaking.”
