All rejoice! Pizza, quite possibly the ultimate share food, is receiving a well-earned world appreciation day today. We love foods that are simply engineered to be eaten, and pizza fits pretty safely in this category: the crust is literally just a handle to help you hold your slice! Arguably the most effective way to put bread, meat, tomato and cheese in your mouth all at the same time, this ‘superfood’ deserves a little recognition on at LEAST an annual basis. So, today, why not show your appreciation and go out and grab a slice or six. Here are the best pizza spots in Brisbane to get your fix.
Coppa Spuntino – CBD
Serving traditional Italian spuntino (small plates), Coppa Spuntino also serves up a mean wood-fired pizza. With indoor and al fresco seating options, Coppa Spuntino is a gorgeous street level setting for your pizza praise session. The menu is a highlight reel of Italian classics, including a bocconcini margherita, and a bianco sauced wild mushroom and truffle number. Boasting an Australian Wine Bar of the Year award, there is no doubt you’ll find un vino delizioso to accompany your pizzetta. Is it 5pm yet?
Julius – South Brisbane
All hail! Julius, a South Brisbane staple, is well known for serving up some of Brisbane’s best traditional pizzas. One look at the menu and your eyes will be enamoured with the Salsiccia: tomato, chilli, mozzarella, provolone, pork and fennel sausage and rocket leaves… Need we say more?
Sorellina – Woolloongabba
The good people at Sorellina have a philosophy of meticulously preparing authentic pizza bases, and then getting their groove on with the toppings. Exhibit A: Mushroom, garlic and porcini ragu. Not to mention their fantastic selection of natural wines that will help you have a great Friday night AND a fresh Saturday morning.
Corbett & Claude – CBD, Indooroopilly, Mt Gravatt
If Corbett & Claude’s menu was Destiny’s Child, the pizza would be Beyoncé, the cocktails would be Kelly Rowland and the appetisers would be Michelle Williams. Kel’ and Michelle are each incredible artists, but they’re really there to help Queen Bey be the best she can be. Not to mention, all three work together so well they become greater than the sum of their parts. What we’re trying to say is you need to get to C&C this Friday and complete the trifecta with their mouth-watering appetisers, fantastic cocktails, and Bey-eautiful pizzas.
Tartufo – Emporium, Fortitude Valley
Whilst the Tartufo Ristorante is amongst the best fine dining in Brisbane, there is a time and place for everything. And in this case, the time is World Pizza Day, and Tartufo’s pizzeria is the place! An oft-forgotten gem, Tartufo has a takeaway pizza option. Tartufo is accredited by the Italian AVPN association, so this very well could be the best pizza you’ll ever eat out of a cardboard box.
Pizzeria Violetta – Kenmore, Paddington, Wilston
Pizzeria Violetta has the suburbs on lock, offering up fine Italian pizzas to three Brisbane locations: Kenmore, Paddington and Wilston. If you’re lucky enough to be living close enough to one of their restaurants then you’re probably well acquainted with the likes of their superb Capricciosa or Quattro Formaggi. If not, then it’s well worth the trip to try their fantastic pizza. Make sure you bring a date (driver) so you can fully appreciate their wine and cocktails…
