A Weekend of Eats at the Gold Coast

A Weekend of Eats at the Gold Coast

A sea breeze and good food. What more could you want?

The Gold Coast is renowned for its beautiful beaches and laidback lifestyle. With no lack of sunshine on the horizon, it’s the ultimate playground for locals and tourists alike, so it’s no wonder at least one of your co-workers has plans to head south on a Friday afternoon.

But a much-needed tan isn’t the only reason for a road trip. Let me take you on a trip tipped to ignite your tastebuds. Foodies, here’s what a weekend at the Gold Coast looks like on your plate.

Dinner: Romanas Italian Restaurant

After a long drive from Brisbane, it’s time to dig in to dinner. And what is more satisfying than a big serve of pasta? While Romanas may not be the flashiest of restaurants, it definitely dishes up the goods. I’m telling you, I’ve been to Italy, but the fettuccine boscaiola at this hidden gem rivals any Roman pasta. Do yourself a favour and try it!

Breakfast: The Paddock Bakery

Two words: dippy eggs. They don’t call it the nostalgia breakfast for nothing! Take a trip down memory lane and reminisce about school mornings past. Your mum’s famous eggs with soldiers are back in a big way and you won’t be able to get enough!

Lunch: BSKT Café
Did someone say salmon? Steamed or sashimi, I could eat salmon for breakfast, lunch and dinner. OK, maybe not breakfast… but if you feel me on a spiritual level, drop by BSKT Café and feast on a salmon aburi bowl. Trust me, it’s worth your while.

Dinner: Donto Sapporo

I kid you not, Donto Sapporo is the best Japanese this side of Japan (or at least on the Gold Coast). Forget about ordering your own meal; take a leaf out of my (Greek) family’s book and order one of everything to share. Highlights include the katsu, edamame and agedashi tofu. But if you ask me, you might as well taste as much as your growing belly will allow – in the name of research, of course.

Breakfast: Juice Bar Burleigh Heads

The only thing better than a Sunday morning stroll is a stroll complete with a freshly-squeezed juice from Juice Bar Burleigh Heads. Picture this: all your favourite fruit juiced and bottled up, topped with more of your favourite fruit! It’s the gift that keeps on giving. Get your hands on one of these bad boys and relish in its extreme thirst-quenching properties. Plus, imagine how awesome your Insta story will look.

Lunch: Rick Shores

Stick around after your juice and enjoy a refreshing swim at Burleigh Heads Beach. Once you’ve worked up an appetite (and tidied yourself up as best you can), visit Rick Shores for the ultimate ocean-side luncheon. Graze on array of delectable delicacies and sip on your drink of choice while enjoying breathtaking views and impeccable food while you toast to a weekend of satisfied stomachs.
On second thought, who needs a whole weekend? I’m heading down just for dinner – totally worth it.
