Style Trial: A week with Tender Loving Cuisine

Style Trial: A week with Tender Loving Cuisine

And no I didn’t just visit my mother every night.

I have to start off with a confession: I’ve been a bad foodie.

I love everything about food; the way it smells, the way it tastes, the way it brings people together and the way it looks through a perfect Instagram filter (JK. But really #foodie). Lately, however, I’ve traded too many home-cooked meals for takeaways and I’ve seriously been overdosing on naughty snacks.

While it’s convenient to eat out all the time, it can take a toll on your wallet, waistline and overall health. After fishing McDonald’s wrappers out of my car for the third time in a week, I knew I (and my stomach) needed to change my ways.

When I heard I’d be trialing TLC (Tender Loving Cuisines), I hummed Waterfalls for two days straight. I’m only human. But I also realised that these meals were exactly what I needed: healthy, hearty food with the same love and affection your mother would put into dishing up a hot meal at dinnertime. I was keen. I was ready to go. I was not at all responsible for tripping a Style staff member in my haste to get to the door when Foodvine delivered my package.

And the meals did not disappoint! During the week I had dishes such as mango chicken, moussaka, Moroccan lamb and beef madras and they were all mouth-wateringly delicious. PLUS, they tasted just like a home-cooked meal, despite being heated in the microwave.

I’m a microwave meal skeptic, always cautious that the next bite could still be half-frozen, but that was never the case with these meals. The recommended cooking time was absolutely on point and gave it that fresh-out-of-the-oven vibe.

My favorite dish would have to be the Moroccan lamb; all the elements worked together perfectly and the spices really made the dish come to life. And it smelled AMAZING. Even my housemates wanted to swap their dinner for mine, which has never happened with any microwave meal before. No way was I giving up my delicious meal for their spaghetti bog, though. I told them where they could get theirs and that it would be delivered within the week.

Usually just the term “portion-controlled” makes me hungry but the TLC meals always left me feeling satisfied. In fact, I often felt full before I’d even finished the dish. My trips to fast food joints had definitely left me missing good calories and healthy, hearty fare and TLC was the perfect solution.

I would definitely recommend this food service to others, and (as in the case of my housemates) I already have.
