Some restaurants are “jack of all trades, master of none”, but not this place. They do one thing and they do it well. We’re talking about Schnitz, the family-owned schnitzel restaurant that’s bringing family-honed recipes to the hungry people of Australia. Added to Newmarket Village as part of their recent multi-million-dollar refurbishment, Schnitz is Brisbane’s go-to destination for perfectly cooked schnitzel.
We’re not kidding. When it comes to crumbed meats, this family knows their schnit.
The family business began when Roman Dyduk, Polish-born schnitzel expert and esteemed chef, decided to share his love of schnitzels with Melbourne locals. Having learned how to make the perfect schnitzel at a St Kilda restaurant back in 1974, Roman spent years perfecting his technique and recipe. In 2007, armed with a lot of feedback and demand from customers at other establishments, Roman opened two specialist schnitzel cafes in Melbourne’s CBD with his two sons, branded Schnitz. Over the years the perfected their service and their product, ultimately deciding to take the next step and open their next location in a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Richmond, Victoria in 2009. He has honed his skill and mastered his craft, and now boasts a mouth-watering schnitzel recipe that combines fresh ingredients and a healthier pan-cooking technique for a delicious, crunch schnitzel that tastes just like it should.
Now, with over 70 restaurants across Australia (with 10 of these locations calling QLD home, including their Westfield Garden City, Westfield North Lakes, Orion Springfield and Pacific Fair locations) they are continuing to share their recipe with hungry diners all over the country. Specialising in a Polish-inspired variation that is perfectly crunchy, cooked to perfection and made-to-order, they’ve elevated schnitzel dining in Australia and we are forever grateful for that!
Their point of difference is that they are committed to mastering their product and continually raising the bar. In addition to their secret recipe schnitzel, they also boast some of Australia’s best chips. Deliciously crunchy and perfectly seasoned, these chips are the perfect accompaniment to their schnitzel. If your usual dinner date has a habit of picking chips off your plate, make sure you order them their own share – you’re going to want these chips all to yourself!
As for the menu, it’s just as carefully crafted as each of their schnitzels. With a variety of 12 rolls and wraps to choose from (including the delicious Parmageddon, made with parma, sautéed peppers & mushrooms, fresh basil & Italian herbs), sides of delicious slaw, a range of healthy salads (that don’t sacrifice flavour), sliders, and more, their menu ticks off every schnitzel variation you could possibly want to try, meaning there’s something for everyone! We’ve received insider info that they are launching a new menu in March 2019 catering to all types. It will have something for everybody (beef, pork, and delectable vegan options!), as well as gluten-free options! Plus with all your favourite sides (three words: kettle-cooked gravy!), we promise you’re in for a delicious schnitzel experience.
But of course, we don’t expect you to just take our word for it. Discover for yourself by heading on down to Schnitz Newmarket (Newmarket Village, shop 136 ground floor/400 Newmarket Rd, Newmarket QLD). Plus, if you purchase a Royal Chip Butty combo meal between 7th December-31st Dec, you will enter the draw to win an entire YEAR’s worth of FREE schnitz! Sign us up.
