1) How long have you been at Lock n Load? What's your experience in hospitality?

I walked into Lock n Load a little over five years ago applying for the General Manager’s role and am now married to Lachlan (owner) and we have our first child on the way. I have worked on and off in the hospitality industry for close on 20 years, including a role as a governor of a very boutique bar in London – I built a team of mostly Aussie girlfriends who were greatly loved by the Englishmen!

I am a big believer that hospitality is either in your blood or it isn’t… My great grandfather/ great grandmother and grandfather / grandmother owned and operated our family hotel for over 50 years. I have memories of crawling over kegs as a young girl and am very proud of my family history.

2) Tell me about the function spaces?

We offer three fantastic function spaces and upon request, full hire of the venue.  Our Upper Courtyard is our largest and most versatile space catering for up to 120 guests. This gorgeous outdoor space, with covered roof and tropical garden, is great for wedding receptions, engagement and birthday parties as well as corporate events.
The Lower Deck is our most sought after cocktail party space for small to medium-sized groups. It provides a unique alfresco space for up to 40 guests wanting a cocktail style event or 20 guests for sit down dinner. Our Upstairs Secluded Dining is a premium indoor dining space boasting a balcony, overlooking Boundary Street, to give you and your guests the ultimate exclusive function.  It comfortably caters for up to 50 guests for a cocktail style event and 30 guests for a sit down dinner. We can cater for anything from a boutique dinner party for ten up to a roaring cocktail party for 200 guests. We have played host to engagement parties, wedding receptions, birthday celebrations, Christmas parties, going away parties and corporate events.

3) What packages are available, and why should someone book their function at Lock n Load?

We have canapés, cocktail, set menu dinners, gourmet BBQ buffets and drinks packages. We can dress your event from simple styling to extravagant. The venue is very flexible in realizing the dream of whatever function you desire but won’t break the budget getting there! We’ve always got live bands playing great original music late at night so your group of revellers can keep on keeping on!

4) What’s the most important thing when it comes to hosting an event or function?

Taking the time to listen and understand what the customer wants in the initial contact allows us to offer the most suitable event space and package. Once I have their vision, I’m quite creative and like to throw ideas around and collaborate with them.  I encourage the client to liaise with me as much or as little as they like right up until their event – everyone’s needs are different.

5) What's been the most unusual event you've been able to cater for?

We hosted an engagement party some time back for a lovely couple who had just returned from the UK. They invited a lot of close friends and half way through dinner, a celebrant turned up and they got hitched on the spot!

6) Most memorable?

We’ve hosted so many amazing events over the years it’s hard to pick a stand out. Personally the most memorable moments are made whilst liaising with the client in the lead up to their event. Being owner operated we can offer flexibility which really surprises our clients! It’s very satisfying and rewarding at the same time. We are very lucky with the team we have.

7) Any celebrity clients?

We had the lead singer from Wolfmother rock in a few years ago with his guitar... he plugged into our sound system and entertained the customers and staff for a good while!

8) Who would you most like to serve?

Hmmm… my husband would definitely say Tara Moss (young man’s crush) and Karl Stefanovic (mature man’s crush)!

9) What's your business mantra?

To be ‘informally awesome'
