Do we have an announcement for you! Restaurateur, Jonathan Barthelmess, has confirmed that he is opening a new restaurant. Specifically at Howard Smith Wharves in the vacant spot next to GRECA.
For those that may not know, GRECA is a contemporary Greek taverna. The Mediterranean inspired restaurant has been highly successful since its December opening. Now with less than five months since its launch, GRECA’s owner will be opening a new restaurant next door! This new, currently unnamed restaurant, will be a two-storey waterfront Japanese izakaya and bar. Barthelmess’s own The Apollo, located in Tokyo, and Cho Cho San, in Sydney, are the inspirations for this new restaurant. With his experience, it’s sure to be a hit!

The chef and the menu are still being determined. So sorry to all you pre-meal pickers, but you’ll have to wait a little longer for the menu deets. What I can tell you however is that the restaurant will have a raw selection based on sustainable seafood. And, if that doesn’t get your tastebuds working then Wagyu beef that has been specially sourced and selected surely will. Get excited for their extensive Sake and Wine list too! The second level will be host to a fun take on a vinyl bar. And yes Whiskey lovers, that means there is an extensive and curated list just for you.
We can confidently say that we are sitting on the edge of our seats with excitement about this opening, but you don’t have to worry about the effect on GRECA. Jonathan Barthelmess said, “By taking the restaurant space next door we can grow and strengthen our team and invest more into the Brisbane dining scene.” Cue the chorus.
Luckily for you, there is time to get prepared for this huge opening. October 2019 is said to be when doors will open, so keep your eyes peeled.
